When Gervase Frant, Seventh Earl of St Erth, returns at last from Waterloo to his family seat at Stanyon, he enjoys a less than welcome homecoming. Only Theo, a cousin even quieter than himself, is there to greet him - and when he meets his stepmother and young half-brother he detects open disappointment that he survived the wars. But the dangers of the Lincolnshire countryside are quite different to those of the battlefield.

Georgette Heyer was the most successful and best-loved novelist of her day and The Quite Gentleman displays all the skills which won the hearts of her large and enduring audience.

Delightful as always and well narrated even though the narrator's regional accent and mispronunciation grated on occasion. Georgette Heyer is still the Queen of Regency.

Another brilliant Heyer

Simple story well delivered. Sometimes you just want something that is easy listening with a little twist, worth a listen definitely.

Simply wonderful to listen to. Gentle story and fabulous narration. Great lazy weekend company whilst sewing.

Just to clear some things up;
swouned is the past tense and past participle of the verb 'to swoon'. it is not mispronounced.
The narrator is a Northerner. Therefore, his pronunciation of the words castle, laugh and glass are not incorrect. They are dialectical.
I really enjoyed this. For some reason, I prefer the male narrators. The mystery was well woven into a classic love story. Recommended.

loved it!

This is a much better version than the previous recording. The action is far removed from London and the cast of characters smaller than in many of Georgette Heyer’s novels but the elements that fans of Heyer look for are all present.

An improved recording of a firm favourite.
