In a world where Derelict machines have driven humanity to extinction, Ren Soros was destined to live a quiet life tinkering away in his enclave. But when a Machine Lord turns his home to ash, he finds himself stranded with his saviour–a cute, feisty and hot Blade Angel cadet. To survive, they must make their way aboard the Pride Enduring–humanity's last remaining haven beyond the Derelict's reach.

Accused of treason against the Blade Angels, Ren turns to the ruins of an ancient megacity in search of redemption. It is a city shrouded in mystery, rumoured to hold a fleet of starships that could change the course of humanity’s war against the Derelict. After claiming the starships, the Blade Angels organise a ruthless competition–the Derelict Duels. The competition will pit cadets against deadly challenges for an accelerated path of ascension.

Ren and his companions finally arrive on Mars, where war rages across the planet. Within protective domes housing the colony cities, Ren and his companions must root out an enemy in their midst. They learn from their peers and mentors who have been tempered by war in the colonies' very own academy. The abandoned military base in the depths of Olympus Mons is said to hold the Arc – a powerful communications array linking humanity's colonies.
