A boy running from his past. A summer he didn’t choose. A legacy he never saw coming. When fifteen-year-old Tyler is sent to spend the summer at his grandparents’ lake cabin in Wisconsin, the last thing he wants is small-town conversations, forced family time, or being the kid who made a choice he can’t outrun. But Spencer Lake has a way of slowing things down. Between early mornings on the dock, long walks down gravel roads, and a stray dog that refuses to leave his side, Tyler finds himself pulled into something he didn’t expect —change. His grandfather, Corny, doesn’t lecture.

Two boys. Two battles. One friendship that will change everything. They never planned to meet. They never expected to need each other. When James and Tony are placed in the same hospital room, their worlds collide in ways neither of them is prepared for. One is fighting a very real battle inside his body. The other is fighting something far less visible—but just as real. One believes deeply in God. The other isn’t sure God exists at all. Different backgrounds. Different beliefs. Different ways of coping. Two lives moving in opposite directions, forced into the same space.
