Briar Gap, West Virginia, was already dying before the earth began to shake. The coal jobs left, the young people followed, and all that remained were empty houses, bad memories, and the dark bulk of Kithlow Ridge leaning over the town like a warning. Eben Locke swore he’d never come back. But his kid brother dies in a “work accident” on the ridge, and the official story doesn’t match the tremors in the ground or the stone dust in the coffin. Coming home means facing the town that chewed him up, the mining company that owns what’s left—and something older that’s waking inside the rock.

Amelia Dunn is running from men who are determined to force her into a life any honest woman would be ashamed of. Her only hope is the big man who risked his own life to save her. But, had she jumped from the pan to the fire? The last thing Hank Richards needed was a meddlesome woman in his way. But when a woman screams, a man just naturally has to step in and help. He should have known better. Now he was saddled with a woman with too many questions and enough enemies to keep him busy for months.

Jack Tanner had drifted from job to job. A natural loner, the last thing he ever expected was to end up married to a stranger and owning a beautiful valley. And now, just as he was beginning to put down roots for the first time in his life, someone wanted to take it all away from him. He’d die before he let that happen. Mail-order bride Jenny O’Neil was coming west to marry Nathanial Parker only to find out he had been murdered. And here was this tall cowboy telling her that Nathanial had left his valley to them. But only if they married.

Rebecca Carson was used to the high society of Philadelphia, not the rough land of the West nor the men it created. When she arrives at her brother's ranch, she discovers him missing and the ranch falling apart. Her only chance is to convince Dusty Rhodes to become her foreman. She needs him if she is going to fight the rustlers, the desert, and a greedy banker.

As the Spanish Flu pandemic promenades through the streets of East Boston, quarantined inside the brownstone tenement, Jimmy Quinn, eyes pressed against the keyhole of a forgotten door, watches her. The mysterious girl dances silently. The only sound is his beating heart. There is no music. She knows he is watching. A relationship will begin.

In my soul, as in your soul, as in each of our souls there are poems just waiting to be written and thus read or listened to. These which I have written are for you to enjoy as you listen and add your own. Take the time to reach for the pen and paper and find yours in your own soul that which is there. Meridian City runs on systems. Traffic. Power. Water. Surveillance. Every streetlight and sensor feeds the grid. Most people think the infrastructure just keeps the city running. They’re wrong. When a convoy of chemical shipments appears in the middle of the night, the city itself intervenes, traffic lights lock down, rail barriers drop, and a masked figure vanishes before anyone can explain what happened. Detective Marcus Vale begins investigating the impossible lockdowns.

A dead woman is discovered dressed up and posed on a baseball diamond. Sergeant Curt Woods is called to the scene and the investigation begins. Before long it becomes evident that the Tri-Cities has a demented serial killer on the loose that is taunting the local law enforcement agencies.

It's what's down the road that haunts us, the not knowing, the anticipation. But as with each road taken, there must be the element of mystery. With each shadow, there must be a corresponding feather of light. To eye beyond the bend in the road would be abnormal. No one sees through the veil of time, the curtain of uncertainty. That's what makes us equal.

The senator's assistant has been put on a hit-list by the senator himself. Bradley's time is limited, but his memories and letters to his families will be mailed out before everything is over. The POST's reporters, Jacob and Ron, feeling grateful for the assistant's help, call him to say thank you but are cut short by Bradley himself.

This story originally appeared in the anthology Protectors 2, edited by Thomas Pluck. It is based loosely upon several cases I worked during my years riding with Bikers Against Child Abuse. The influence of my mentor, Andrew Vachss, is clearly evident. It is about a member of a motorcycle club similar to BACA who went above and beyond, throwing it all away for a girl under his protection, who died when he was prevented from helping her. This is a hard story to hear and will leave a lasting impact.

Blackberry Mint Lemonade. A simple fast-food treat, or the catalyst for societal collapse? Scottie Brentson doesn’t know. Yet that doesn’t stop him from trying the latest beverage craze El Rancho Burgers has to offer. It isn’t long before he regrets his choice. First assuming he suffers from an allergic reaction to the refreshment, he quickly discovers himself mutating into a pyrokinetic being. He isn’t alone. Other people develop super-strength, ice, parasitic telepathy, and magic, among other abilities. Not all these powers will benefit mankind.

Tristan Grieves is an unwashed soul, in a city the colour of gargoyles. Liene, a girl with eyes that drank from every ocean asks for help to find Boomerang - a boy she throws away, but who always returns. Until he vanishes.

The second volume of poems which is meant to accompany the Treasure Fleets series. Written by the characters of the books, they are essential to understanding their journeys through life and love while they cross the seas to new lands. Each volume reveals the inner nature of the person as they traverse and endeavor. With few words they try to convey the depth of their feelings, longings as they share each other.

Simple Acts is the eighth in the series called A Volume of Poems. Written for the souls that reside within the eons of the Cosmic realms. The spirit soul circle spoke to me of the poems and told me to write their poems. In this volume find those stories of their souls that lay just beyond the edge of the sacred fires. As in previous Volumes of Poems this volume is words written with reflection and reverence for they are meant to convey a meaning.

The Mountain Valleys is the second in the Canticles series. It is a collection of words which became poems of my soul. They are a continuation of the way in which I seek to convey unto you what my soul yearns to express. In simple words that paint as if they are an art form all their own. Words can be crafted by the manner in which they are aligned. Which word follows one another. Then the use of punctuation and spacing to induce one to pause and give reflection. These poems are mine, yet they are of the cosmos meant to be heard and shared.

The Sunflower Fields is the first in The Canticles series. It is a collection of words which became poems of my soul. They are meant for you the reader to enjoy as you move the words across your tongue and mind speaking them to your own soul. Each poem is about the beauty which is within the flowers which follow the sun in their day to day existence seeking its rays to grow and flourish. They are written by my hand, but they are not meant to be kept still upon the page. They are seeking to be released and, in that freedom, find your soul. Listen.

Far and Away is a true story about the journey which we all have begun. And it continues as we progress along the pathways. Written to inspire and encourage. The words are a poem from the soul. My soul to your soul. Listen to them as they speak. Share them as they are meant to be with all others who are among us.
