As explained by Mendenhall, she doesn’t remember much about writing and publishing her debut title due to the medicalized trauma she experienced. The trauma continued after publication on 06/01/2019. Mendenhall had emergent spinal surgeries in July and October of that year. Now, years later and with a clear mind, Mendenhall invites reader-listeners on a journey revisiting a book she feels she never had a chance to celebrate and honor fully.
