Am Allerseelentag 1989 treffen sich in Gdansk ein Witwer und eine Witwe, ein deutscher Kunsthistoriker und eine polnische Restauratorin. Beide sind Vertriebene; und beider Eltern haben sich gewünscht, einst in ihrer Heimaterde zu ruhen. So kommt es zur Idee einer Deutsch-Polnischen Friedhofsgesellschaft - die Vertriebenen sollen als Tote auf "Versöhnungsfriedhöfe" zurückkehren dürfen. Aus der Idee entwickelt sich in den nächsten Jahren ein florierendes Wirtschaftsunternehmen und eine neue deutsche Landnahme in Polen.
