Set in the post-martial-law era of late-1980s Taipei, Notes of a Crocodile is a coming-of-age story of queer misfits discovering love, friendship, and artistic affinity while hardly studying at Taiwan's most prestigious university. Told through the eyes of an anonymous lesbian narrator nicknamed Lazi, this cult classic is a postmodern pastiche of diaries, vignettes, mash notes, aphorisms, exegesis, and satire by an incisive prose stylist and major countercultural figure.

Into a twelve-foot crocodile. REDS is my last shot before giving up on men. And they actually find me a reptile shifter, hot and quiet with gila monster vibes. Things are looking up. Right until I got tasered outside of my lab and six goons shove me into a black van. I'm blindfolded, handcuffed, and on a loaded onto a plane. 

Wild Wallaby and Kind Koala decided it might be a good thing to have this crocodile along for the journey after all, even if she was a little cranky. They approached her and asked if she'd like to stick together for a while. She gave a full-toothed smirk. "It might not be a bad idea to always have a couple of plump snacks nearby." Wild Wallaby laughed and hopped off. "You'd have to catch me first." The Cranky Crocodile snapped her jaws at him. "Don't tempt me." Kind Koala couldn't tell whether or not she was joking.
