AD 797, Cyprus. Warrior-monk Hunlaf and his crew are on a voyage to acquire an important Christian relic before it falls into the hands of the Byzantines and their scheming Empress Eirene. Hunlaf’s crew receive unexpected help as they seek their treasure, but soon find themselves betrayed. The year is 332 BC when two Celtic farmers born in present-day Switzerland fight alongside their friends against a neighboring tribe. In the aftermath, they are sold as slaves and sent to ancient Athens, where they are eventually conscripted into the military and included in a plan to steal a massive treasure from an Illyrian fortress. When finally returning to their homeland in the north, they encounter a phenomenon that changes the course of their lives and their involvement in the historical events to come.
