Orthodoxy, first published 1908, is Chesterton's spiritual autobiography. Subtitled, 'The romance of faith', Chesterton declares that people need a life of 'practical romance; the combination of something that is strange with something that is secure.'

Orthodoxy (1908) is a book by G. K. Chesterton that has become a classic of Christian apologetic. Chesterton considered this book a companion to his other work, Heretics, writing it expressly in response to G.S. Street's criticism of the earlier work, "that he was not going to bother about his theology until I had really stated mine". In the book's preface Chesterton states the purpose is to "attempt an explanation, not of whether the Christian faith can be believed, but of how he personally has come to believe it." In it, Chesterton presents an original view of Christian religion.

Written in his signature style – full of paradox, wit and poetic insight – Chesterton outlines an intellectually rigorous defence of the Christian faith. Part autobiography, part theology, Orthodoxy traces Chesterton's personal journey from a crisis of doubt to belief, arguing that Christianity uniquely satisfies the long-established human need for truth, imagination and joy. Rather than religious doctrine being dry or dogmatic in any way, Chesterton relays it as adventurous and romantic – and the only worldview that allows enough room to make sense of the world's wonders and contradictions.

G. K. Chesterton was a famous English writer, Christian thinker, and philosopher that lived between 1874 and 1936. Here are three of his finest nonfiction works collected in a single volume: What's Wrong with the World, Orthodoxy, and Heretics. Within the audio of this collection, you’ll discover how Chesterton sets forth one of the most telling critiques of contemporary religious notions ever, and how he accepted his opponents’ challenge to set forth his own reasons for accepting the Christian faith.

Orthodoxy (1908) by G. K. Chesterton is a classic of Christian apologetics. The audiobook is a companion to his volume of essays titled Heretics, and focuses on the Apostles' Creed. It was written when Chesterton was an Anglican; he converted to Catholicism 14 years later. The prose is witty and incisive, meaning Chesterton at the height of his power.

This book is meant to be a companion to "Heretics," and to put the positive side in addition to the negative. Many critics complained of the book because it merely criticised current philosophies without offering any alternative philosophy. This book is an attempt to answer the challenge. It is the purpose of the writer to attempt an explanation, not of whether the Christian Faith can be believed, but of how he personally has come to believe it. The book is therefore arranged upon the positive principle of a riddle and its answer.

In it, Chesterton presents an original view of the Christian religion. He sees it as the answer to natural human needs, the "answer to a riddle" in his own words, and not simply as an arbitrary truth received from somewhere outside the boundaries of human experience.
