"Olalla" is a short story by the Scottish novelist, poet, essayist, and travel writer Robert Louis Stevenson. It was first published in the Christmas 1885 issue of The Court and Society Review, then re-published in 1887 as part of the collection The Merry Men and Other Tales and Fables. It is set in Spain during the Peninsular War. The story is based on a dream that Stevenson had and in his 1888 essay "A Chapter on Dreams", he describes the difficulties he had in fitting his vision into a narrative framework.

"Olalla" was a "shilling shocker" written for the Christmas season in 1885, just before the publication of Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The nameless protagonist of this Gothic tale, a wounded soldier, goes to the Spanish countryside to recuperate. He finds himself enthralled by the beautiful Olalla, the daughter of his hostess, whose family conceals a terrible secret.

There is something wrong about the Spanish residencia on the hill. Some disregard it as only a house with a mad woman with her two children. Others claim that unspeakable things happen at night, when the house is in the shadows. When a wounded war hero takes refuge in this forbidding home, he slowly realizes that degenerate people tend to fraternize with degenerate spirits.
