Inmitten dieser turbulenten Zeit begegnen sich in Worms zwei junge Frauen: Mara, eine Christin von ungeklärter Herkunft, welche Speyer verlassen hat, nachdem sie zur heimlichen Mitwisserin eines geplanten Mordanschlages auf Luther wird und Nahel, eine Jüdin, die nach einem Pogrom gegen die Juden in Regensburg fliehen musste und nun ihre jüdische Identität aus Angst vor neuer Verfolgung leugnet.

Imagine that an entire village of Black slaves is magically transformed into White people in order to free them from slavery. Seventeen-year-old Elijah is a tormented slave that is determined to be free or to die trying. His love for slave girl Seppi motivates him to plot their escape, but their ancestors have other plans to free the entire village, though they must make sacrifices. The harsh reality of slavery and the triumph of victory have a hefty cost. Life and blood are on the line. Not only will Elijah battle the slave masters, but also other dark forces await him.
