Luther is a darkly humorous mafia book that tells the story of Luther LaMotta, an accidental low-level hitman in the Manchini family mob. Luther wants nothing more from life than to savor music in the solitude of his plant-filled apartment, or to romp in borrowed luxury cars with his girlfriend/stripper Candy Barr, an Amish runaway. Instead, he is forced to clean up after mob hits, feeding victims’ body parts to a crocodile named Bianca who is kept in a pit in a New York City basement.

Suken Anisaria is just starting out as a bounty hunter in a floating city riddled with crime, corruption, and magical convergences powering everything from railcars to crossbow bolts. He’s got years of training under his belt, a hatful of his dead uncle’s debts to pay off, and the talent and drive to make it in the dangerous world of bounty hunting. When a warrant goes up for a notorious thief-turned-murderer, he jumps on the chance to take it, knowing that success will cut years off of his career advancement.

Del is moving up. One of the problems with life in the asteroid belt, though, is that “up” depends a lot on your point of view. She’s built a good life for herself out here, balancing her job as an Enforcer of what passes for the Belt’s laws, with her extra activities that the rest of the Enforcers can never find out about. But when the voices that plagued her childhood come back, she fails to prevent a terrorist attack, and her best friend is assigned to the investigation, all her secrets threaten to come out and her good life begins to unravel.

Out of the Frying pan is an exceedingly dark comedy that follows the story of Luther LaMotta and Martini Conti as they escape the death and dismemberment they have left behind in New York. Driving a brand new, stolen Lincoln Town Car the only plan they have is to lay low and try to out wit the gangsters that have been sent to kill them.
