The route was from Guayaquil to Quito, over the Cordillera, through the forest to Napo, and, finally, on the Rio Napo to Pebas on the Maranon. James Dewey Watson (April 6, 1928-November 6, 2025) was an American molecular biologist, geneticist, and zoologist. Francis Harry Compton Crick (June 8, 1916-July 28, 2004) was an English molecular biologist, biophysicist, and neuroscientist. In 1953, Watson and Crick co-authored an academic paper in Nature proposing the double helix structure of the DNA molecule, building on research by Rosalind Franklin and Raymond Gosling.
