  • Episode 13: The Rules From Shana Rishona We May Have Forgotten
    Oct 29 2026

The Chazon Ish wrote a famous letter to a young avreich in his first year of marriage. Are you sure you're not skipping the rules in it?

Rav Chaim Friedlander now brings the Chazon Ish's letter, and Rabbi Klapper shows why it applies to every couple, not only those in shana rishona. Her deepest enjoyment is knowing she finds favor in her husband's eyes, so he must work to show her love and closeness by talking with her and spending time with her. (Al tarbeh sicha im ha'isha is about talk that isn't needed.) Formality breeds fear and distance; speak to her the way a right hand relates to the left. Tell her where you're going and what you did, and give her chizuk. Then the point most people forget: daven for shalom bayis. The Gemara in Gittin describes the Satan stirring up strife on Erev Shabbos, so ask Hashem for help every Friday. Rabbi Klapper knows Erev Shabbos chaos firsthand, including a race for stitches minutes before candle lighting.

A Midrash explains that once Chava was created, ish and isha could only live together when Hashem put His Name between them. Take out the yud and the hei, and what's left is two fires. If shalom bayis takes a miracle, techniques won't produce it; bring in the One who makes miracles. That is also why Rabbi Klapper warns against secular marriage books built on getting what you want instead of achdus. Finally, the Chazon Ish adds one word to the mitzvah of v'simach es ishto: it is a chov, an obligation, not a perk. Just as chetzyo lachem on Yom Tov means serving Hashem with the physical, the year of simcha is a duty, not free time.

Ready to bring Hashem into your home and take the first year's rules seriously, whatever year you're in? Tune in.

  • Episode 12: The Advantages of Her Bina Yisera
    Oct 22 2026

Why does she notice the one detail you never would have thought of, and why is that exactly what your home needs?

Chazal learn from the creation of Chava that Hashem gave a woman bina yeseira, more understanding than a man. Rav Chaim Friedlander explains the difference: chochmah is taking in what you heard and passing it on as is; bina is breaking it into its parts and building something new from them. A woman sees every detail of the building, and running a home depends on exactly that. Rabbi Klapper brings it down to earth, from leftovers turned into a brand-new supper, to a plate that looks like a meal instead of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, to the planners on his street who forgot where the delivery trucks would park.

The Gemara in Yevamos says a man without a wife lives without a wall. Her care for the small things is what protects him, financially, physically and spiritually. Chazal say that even if your wife is short, bend down and listen to her. When Rabbi Elazar ben Azarya was asked to become Nasi, his wife pointed out that he had no white beard, and Hashem made a nes that very night. The details matter, and Hashem Himself cares about them: He gave every fruit its own color and smell. The more a husband studies his wife and sees these differences as the bracha of an ezer kenegdo, the more he will be mechabed her.

Ready to see her eye for detail as a gift, not an annoyance? Tune in.

  • Episode 11: Why Does She Hold on to Every Argument
    Oct 15 2026

You made up weeks ago. So why is the old fight back on the table the moment a new one starts?

Rav Chaim Friedlander brings the Gemara in Niddah: a man is easily appeased and a woman is not, because each was created from something different. Adam came from the soft earth; Chava was built from bone. Rabbi Klapper explains what that means in a real home. The intellect can admit a mistake and move on, but emotions don't settle so fast, and an old hurt can be woken by the smallest trigger. So when she brings up the last fight, don't answer with "Why are you bringing that up? We finished with that." Know in advance that it will happen, and appease her again, with patience. He also shares what his own Rav told him about a mechila that didn't seem to fully take.

Then a chizuk for every couple: Rav Shimshon Pincus calls Chanukah "the first good fight". A wedding proves nothing; a kesher shows its strength when a couple goes through a fight and comes out closer. Rabbi Klapper ends with a point from the shiurim of Rav Don Segal: a woman, created to be an ezer kenegdo, can hardly bear feeling blamed, because blame tells her she has given her husband a reason not to love her. That is why she may argue against all logic. The answer is to put the kesher ahead of your ego, and to decide that before the moment comes, not in the middle of it.

Ready to stop fighting the last argument and start building past it? Tune in.
