In Week 40 of their 52-week countdown, Dave and Candace Rae reflect on the passage of time, major milestones—including Candace celebrating 485 days of sobriety—and lessons learned through life’s different seasons. A recent parent-teacher conference sparks a candid conversation about public school memories, the evolution of education, and the art of the interview.

From quirky hiring questions and childhood classroom chaos to the unique rhythm of live morning radio versus free-flowing podcasts, the pair dive deep into why modern culture is obsessed with being "busy" and the hidden weight of social media’s "performance debt." Plus, Candace shares details on her upcoming 5-week mindful art series, Inward, and the hosts offer heartfelt reflections on family history, lineage, grief, and the importance of holding onto meaningful moments before time slips away.

Hitting the road for an on-the-go edition, Dave and Candace Rae take listeners along for a ride through Winnipeg as they close in on an incredible milestone: nearly 500 days of sobriety. En route to a media night at The Sober Market on Academy, the pair reflect on how their lifestyles, social circles, and bank accounts have shifted since giving up alcohol. From navigating bar culture and the awkward truth of drunk conversations to rediscovering the joy of zero-proof craft brews and fancy mocktails, they offer an honest, funny, and grounded look at alcohol-free living.

The ride also detours through plenty of nostalgic memories, including classic Sunday night cruises down Portage Avenue, vintage dream cars, sidecar motorcycles, and late-night Frank's Pizza orders. Whether you're curious about the sober movement or just love candid marital banter from the front seat, join Dave and Candace for a warm, insightful journey behind the wheel.

11 weeks in on the countdown clock of 52, Dave and Candace Rae hit Week 42 of their journey before officially shipping out of Winnipeg! As the endless barrage of "So, where are you actually moving?" rolls in, the couple reveals how they’ve turned the secrecy into a game—humorously deflecting every nosey inquiry with a deadpan "We're moving to space."

That playful deflection sparks an honest, hilarious deep dive into interplanetary living. While Dave is completely captivated by futuristic space exploration and off-world ambition, Candace Rae makes it crystal clear that leaving Earth is definitely not on her bucket list. From sci-fi daydreams, the conversation turns back to home turf: reflecting on Winnipeg’s shifting landscape, immigration, local civic politics, and the broader identity of the city. Dave reflects on 25 years of living in the Prairies while Candace Rae revisits memories of growing up here, exploring how much Winnipeg has evolved—and what it really feels like to pack up and say goodbye.

We are officially on Week 44 of our 52-week countdown to leaving Winnipeg!

With the fall air rolling into Manitoba, the seasonal flu bugs have officially entered the house. Candace dives into why our childhood sickness habits—from Campbell's chicken noodle soup and The Price Is Right with Bob Barker to a mom handing you a pill—differ so much from the holistic home playbook today. Between raw onions on the soles of feet, mullein, bone broths, fasting to let the body's internal army fight off invaders, and reflexology lung meridians, we break down why returning to traditional wellness habits keeps the family grounded. Plus, Dave revisits the time a burger led to 24 hours of total hallucination under the radio station control desk.

In the back half, we look at the true heartbeat of Dave’s 20+ years living in Winnipeg: hockey. From coaching Junior hockey with the St. Boniface Seals and Transcona Railers to grabbing the PA mic for the Manitoba Moose at the new arena, Dave traces how the game opened incredible doors. We relive our wild trip flying private alongside "The Golden Jet" Bobby Hull to Nashville, getting escorted straight off the tarmac, the upcoming Teemu Selänne charity lunch at Rae & Jerry’s for CancerCare Manitoba, and the unmatched joy of calling play-by-play for tiny Timbits players during intermission.

Fresh off a grueling 2,600-kilometer trek to Edmonton and back, Dave and Candace Rae break down the raw reality of post-road-trip exhaustion, juggling work with the kids back in school, and the hilarious voices that live inside their heads. Between West Edmonton Mall adventures—from shooting ranges to the Santa Maria replica—and Candace’s unfiltered take on water park slide closures, the trip proved that family getaways are equal parts fun and endurance test.

The heart of the episode turns toward live rock and roll. After catching the Foo Fighters’ relentless set in Edmonton and catching AC/DC rattling the stadium walls on the drive home, Dave and Candace tackle the big debate: when does a legendary band cross the line from rocking hard into hanging it up? The conversation expands into decades of concert memories across Western Canada, the timeless magic of dingy local clubs, and how crowd culture has shifted from bootleg cassette tapers to sea-of-phone-screens.

In this episode, Dave and Candace Rae look out across Manitoba and reflect on exploring beyond their own perimeter. From Candace’s recent keynote and wellness retreat out in Pinawa—complete with curious wild deer peering into the windows—to Dave realizing how many northern lakes, historic trails, and quiet provincial routes remain untouched on his bucket list, the conversation wanders through what it truly means to get off the beaten path.

The episode also turns deeply personal as the hosts navigate an unexpected pivot on the home front. After learning their Junior A billet hockey player was suddenly traded eastward, Dave and Candace dive into an open, honest discussion about youth sports, family expectations, and the rare courage it takes for young athletes to pause and make choices for their own well-being rather than living vicariously through the dreams of others.

Between roadside snack etiquette, small-town quirks, and plenty of laughs, Dave and Candace deliver a warm, candid, and funny look at the journeys people take—both across the map and within themselves.
