  • Altars, Sacrifice and Discipleship | What It Really Means to Follow Jesus
    Mar 8 2026

    Send a text

In this episode, we go deeper into the heart of discipleship by exploring priesthood, sacrifice, altars, and spiritual disciplines.

Before we can truly understand what it means to be a disciple of Jesus, we need to understand what it means to live as part of a royal priesthood. This conversation lays the foundation for why discipleship is more than inspiration or information. It is a life poured out before God.

    In this teaching, we explore:

    • what the Bible means by priesthood
    • why much of the Christian life is a battle of altars
    • the connection between worship and sacrifice
    • the difference between a freewill offering and a burnt offering
    • how God reveals the specific sacrifice He is asking of each of us
    • why the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7) shapes the spiritual disciplines we will be studying in this series

We also look at key Scriptures including:

    • Revelation 1:4–6
    • 1 Peter 2:1–5, 9–10
    • Genesis 22:2–5
    • Romans 12:1–2
    • Matthew 3:15–17
    • Matthew 5–7

This episode is for anyone who wants to move beyond surface-level Christianity and grow in a deeper, more surrendered walk with God.

    Reflection for this episode:
Spend time prayerfully reading Matthew 5–7. Ask the Lord what stands out to you, what challenges you, and where He is inviting you to grow. Then ask Him what sacrifice He is calling you to lay down in this season.

Welcome to the beginning of a brand-new season on Spiritual Disciplines and what it truly means to live as a disciple of Jesus. God gave me this topic three years ago, and looking back, I can see He wasn’t just giving me a message to share… He was taking me on a journey to live it first.

In this episode, we return to the Bible to define discipleship with clarity, explore the roots of the word disciple (Tamid ➝ Talmid), and lay the foundation for the disciplines we’ll be building on throughout this series.

    In this episode:

    • What is a disciple, really?
    • Why discipleship has been assumed, and then lost
    • Spiritual disciplines as formation, not performance
    • The disciplines we’ll explore this season (prayer, fasting, purity, peace, discernment, Scripture and more)

Take a moment as you listen: What has discipleship meant in your own life up to now? And what might God be inviting you into next?
