  • Ep. 6 — Closer Than Either of Us Knew
    Nov 4 2026

He slowed his horse at the grate. Her grate. And studied the ground exactly where she had climbed out.Zaira's chapter. She has found the registry — a narrow building tucked behind Emberhold's outer administrative wing, beside an old well nobody draws water from anymore, guarded noticeably less heavily than a building full of old records should be. Records don't get hidden in plain, boring sight unless somebody powerful believes they're worth more than treasure. For four nights she watches instead of rushing: cataloguing shift changes, timing the doors, and finding the gap — just past midnight, the side door sits unwatched for nearly twenty minutes while its two guards take their meal together down the corridor, a habit so consistent it has to be years old.On the fifth night, heading back across the fields, she hears hoofbeats on the road above her and drops into the drainage ditch out of habit. A small escort passes close overhead — and at its center, a rider who isn't dressed like a guard. Younger. Dark hair, dark eyes even at a distance, and a posture so deliberately controlled it looks rehearsed: the specific kind of stillness that takes years to build and never quite looks natural once you've built it. He slows near the grate — the exact grate she climbed out of five nights earlier, the one she covered as carefully as she could. He dismounts, crouches, and studies her boot print with the same patient attention she would have given it herself. For one suspended moment he looks up — not at her, but out at the whole dark field, the way you look when you can feel something out there without being able to name it. Her right eye flickers silver entirely on its own. He doesn't see her. He remounts and rides on toward the keep. Lying in the cold mud afterward, her hands shaking harder than they did in the tunnel, she tells herself it was just a close call, just another guard. Some stubborn part of her — the part that has waited fifteen years — already knows it wasn't.In this chapter:• The registry building, found: plain, boring, and deliberately overlooked• Four nights of watching, and the twenty-minute gap at the side door• The rider at the grate — and the stillness she recognizes without knowing why• Closer than either of them knew: fifteen years apart, one boot print between themLeft for Bad — Season One. • Ep. 5 — The Anomaly
    Oct 30 2026

"Probably an animal." That's what he tells them. It isn't true.Himzo's chapter. A servant has reported disturbed ground near the outer fields — flattened grass, one faint drag mark, running toward an old drainage grate nobody has thought about in years. Reports like that don't usually reach the heir. But Lord Edric has been jumpier than usual for weeks, and jumpy in him means eyes he personally trusts on anything unusual, however small. He sends his son to confirm it.What Himzo finds at the grate is small, recent, and wrong. A partial boot print pressed into the soft ground — a few days old at most, and plainly not garrison issue. Every boot inside these walls carries the stamped house mark in its sole, without exception. This print carries nothing: plain worn leather, the tread uneven, resoled more than once out of necessity rather than choice. Someone from outside the wall has been here. Recently. And whoever it was came in at an angle that avoided the one spot where a watchtower would have had a clear line of sight — patient, methodical, planned over considerable time, in a way nobody raised inside these walls has ever had to learn. He waves his escort back, studies it alone, and then rides home and reports the captain's conclusion instead of his own: an animal, most likely. He isn't sure why he lies. Maybe because the moment he reports it, it becomes his father's problem — and his father's way of handling problems rarely ends gently for whoever is standing on the other side of the decision. That night Selene finds him at his window, quiet since morning, and doesn't push. He stands looking out over the dark fields toward the grate, and two thoughts keep arriving together and refusing to separate: the courtyard story nobody will finish — and his sister, a person he holds almost no real memory of, only scraps and his father's careful retelling. In this chapter:• The drag mark and the grate: a border report that shouldn't have reached the heir• The boot print with no house mark — plain leather, resoled by hand• The lie he tells his own escort, and can't fully explain to himself• Recognition without a name: a feeling like a storm coming, long before the cloudsLeft for Bad — Season One. • Ep. 2 — What's Under the Wall
    Oct 20 2026

"Made it."Zaira was supposed to wait a month, same as the Bench agreed. Instead — with her father asleep and her pack already hidden under her bedroll for exactly this night — she goes. This chapter of the post-apocalyptic audio drama is the crossing: one girl, one forgotten tunnel, and everything on the other side of the wall that the Dead Expanse has only ever heard described like a myth. The culvert is worse than she measured it. Tighter, with standing water in the low places and a choke point halfway through where she has to turn sideways and push with her shoulder, skin scraping raw against stone that hasn't moved in longer than she's been alive. For one bad stretch she is certain she has misjudged the whole plan and is about to get stuck under the wall, alone, in the dark, where nobody knows to look for her. What gets her through is her father's breathing, taught to her as a child: four in, hold for four, four out slow. Her right eye gives off a faint silver shimmer in the black — the Mirror Eye, kept low. There is nothing down here worth copying. She just needs to not die quietly in a hole. Then her hand finds open air instead of stone — and she comes up into grass. Actual grass, soft and green and endless under the moonlight, ordinary to everyone who grows up with it and impossible to everyone outside. In the far distance, past a dark line of trees, towers lit gold against the night: Emberhold Keep. Her uncle's home. Her brother's home too — fifteen years since she last saw his face, and he has no idea his sister is standing on his side of the world. No alarm sounds. No guards come running. She settles into the brush along a stone field wall and waits out the night, watching the lights, building the rough shape of a plan: stay off the roads, move at night, learn this place before it learns her.In this chapter:• The crossing the Bench never approved — alone, at night, under the wall• The choke point, and the breathing that gets her through it• First grass: the inside of the wall, seen by outside eyes for the first time• Emberhold in the distance — and a brother who doesn't know she's hereLeft for Bad — Season One.
