Story
This is the story of Michael Talbot, his family, and his friends: a band of ordinary people trying to get by in extraordinary times. When disaster strikes, Mike, a self-proclaimed survivalist, does his best to ensure the safety and security of those he cares for. Book One of the Zombie Fallout Trilogy follows our lead character at his self-deprecating, sarcastic best. What he encounters along the way leads him down a long dark road, always skirting the edge of insanity.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

When the end of the world arrived, it came not with a bang, as most expected, but with more of a "pfft" instead. Humanity has been torn asunder and brought to the edge of total annihilation in less than an hour. For those who died, it was a quick death, so fast that their brains didn't have time to process the pain signals from their nerves. For those who survived, the true horror is about to begin as they struggle to not only stay alive, but come to grips with the shocking realization about what - and who - was responsible.

Interesting preview to the series
I’m glad I was able to read this before I started book 1
The narrator does a good job ... but reads a bit to slow for me .. and for the first time ever (214 audiobooks) I cranked the speed up to 1.2
Much better.
After just finishing listening to books 1-5 of Mountain man and looking for my next fix ... zombie fall seemed a possible next read and I think going by this prequel it’s going to be another ride along through hell
bring it on

Brilliant!
I was intrigued by this but wondered if I'd enjoy a Zombie Fallout book without Mike Talbot and family. My concerns were unfounded however, as Mark Tufo's brilliant storytelling and rounded characters pulled me in immediately. I'm hoping we'll somehow come across one or two of these characters in later ZF novels.
As ever, Sean Runnette gives an excellent performance.

Not as dramatic, exciting and humurous as Stephen Michael Fuchs' Arisen books, and not nearly as well narrated as by R.C. Bray. Also, there are many long dialogues between characters. But I'm going to give this series a chance.

Narrator
I am an avid audio listener but OTG Sean Runnette is the most boring sing-song narrator I have ever listen to. Whether he describes a p×ss against a tree, or a battle sequence.......all in the same voice. All the characters.....same voice. My G. it's so irritating to listen to.
No idea of nuances at all.
Such a pity because the writing is quite good. I will READ the rest of the series.
For an army lot of guys, they must all be angels......never use any straight forward language that proper men use...the worse? Goddamned it!
THAT'S NOT ARMY TALK.....that's snowflake jabber.

As usual Mark Tufo does not disappoint
If you are a fan of zombie fall-out books by Mark Tufo, one must hear this one. It introduces a deeper darker reason for the spread of the zombie apocalypse plus we as listeners are given some an early introduction to one of Michael Talbot’s thorns in his side!
Zombie Fall-Out Zero shows the darker side of human nature and those who exploit. We learn who patient zero was, how he came into being and what happened. We are given a brief yet poignant look into the beginning of the end.
While there is no Michael Talbot to save the world, it is Major Sanders and his team of new recruits who must try. Will the Marines be enough?
As usual Mark Tufo does not disappoint. Although Michael Talbot does not have a role in the book, we are still highly entertained with the bucking of the establishment/authority figures. I enjoyed seeing how intertwined all the major characters are in this series from the beginning.
I enjoy Tufo’s writing style and his ability to create strong characters in a short time period. This story left off where Zombie Fall-Out 1 picks up. Everything flowed and set the stage but also gave his listeners valuable information.
Sean Runnette as usual did an excellent job of narrating and owning the book. I love his ability to assume the roles in the book and own them.
There were no audio issues with this publication, everything was clear and concise.
This is a must listen to all Tufo and Michael Talbot fans everywhere!

Well... it’s no “we’re alive”
I listen to a lot of books and a lot of zombie survival style - with experiences like “we’re alive” this “zombie fallout” really left a lot to be desired. The acting is very average - the story is so bland - and to add insult to injury the short length of it shows the amount of time that went into it (not much)
I’d say skip this one

Give a great background to the series, perfect for those new to the series and veterans alike.
What does Sean Runnette bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I'm tempted to return it and I never return books
I hate when authors do these shorts!!! I love Mark's books, but I was excited to see a new Zombie Fallout book from Mark Tufo and didn't notice a 2+ hour play time. From the tiny little bit you can get from less than 3 hours of reading time, it seemed very much like his standard stuff. Normally a good formula for an entertaining book, but in this case, just an annoying waste of my time and money. The least they could have done is labeled it with a .5 to let you know it was a short like the 3.5 book that I never bought.

Writing way better; story OK but not especially novel
The crummy writing of the first two books I’ve read so far (Fallout 1 & 2), wasn’t as prevalent in this book. I didn’t feel like the author was grabbing for a thesaurus on every page, like an eighth grade creative writing student. The book read quite well. The story was decent, although there was nothing unique to it. It’s the usual kind of thing. A government experiment gone wrong. A band of soldiers battling to survive. Like the Han Solo movie, it may give some tidbits of background information on the disease and some characters, but otherwise isn’t special. Short, though. A quick read and worth the effort if you like the series.

Good but....
It’s a good story and as usual Sean Runnette is excellent. But it is an expensive 2hrs of the story. If you are like me and started with book 1 and read these kind of books often then you know there is always a “patient zero”. Some other series continue the story from there. This one is totally unrelated to Mr T except at the end where it intros his story. It adds nothing to the series itself. It’s a beginning but no end. You get invested in the marine’s struggle and then it’s over.
