Summary
"Lots of talent here." (Best-selling author D. Fischer)
The mysterious plant-like beings known as Witterkin have been attacked and begin a viral spread, destroying everything they touch. Nya, a wise woman, and Yaro, the town Windsinger, try to heal the damage and halt the spread. However, something goes awry, and they both slip sideways into another world.
Nya emerges alone, greeted only by Yaro’s ghostly windsinging. During her dangerous search for him, she must combat the will of powerful figures who wish to hold him for their own ends. But rescuing the man she loves won’t solve the bigger problem. The evil that harmed the Witterkin now threatens both worlds. To fight it, Nya will have to delve deep into her own mysterious heritage.

Great plot
This is a really good story which shows fantastic imagination. The characters were good and it was easy listening. The only let down was that it wasn’t described well enough so it was difficult to picture.

The start of a great new world?
I really enjoyed this story. I would have liked more detail about how they returned from the “other world”. Waking up in her bed seemed a bit vague. I loved the interest and intrigue in the other world and I hope for more tales like this involving Naya, Yaro and Ninod! (Audiobook so not sure of spellings!)

Very entertaining listen
This is a review freely given in exchange for a free audio download.
This is an easy listen with interesting characters and great storyline and I loved the ending with its little quirky twist.
I would have liked a bit more description all round though.
I did feel the narration was generally good, however it was a bit irritating that all the female characters were given such weak girly voices.
I would definitely recommend for some light reading.

The Witterkin
The voice acting was really good, lots of different voices all by the same person. The story was interesting though I feel there should have been some trigger warnings, there is a small AR & a couple of other strong images represented.

Welcome to the world of the Witterkin!
Welcome to the world of the Witterkin, a place where magic exists, and wonder grows in the world through a plant-like species with the titular name. The story features Nya, a lonely young lady who’s always felt different, who’s always felt like she didn’t belong in her small town, and Yaro, the town’s master Windsinger who acts as the community’s stonemason for windstones which mark the graves of the dead and allow their voices to continue on with the wind that blows through them. With the Witterkin, Nya finds comfort. Having lost her mother and father, she can only sort of talk to Yaro, but things have been strained for them since the accident that took her mother years before. When the Witterkin, the green, plant hivemind begins to turn red, and the land around them begins to die, it’s up to Nya to cross the border between her world and another realm, a place she never even knew existed! With only Yaro’s windsong in the air, and a fascinating cast of monsters and fae, Nya must traverse this new realm and save Yaro so that he can save the Witterkin!
With an atypical female protagonist, fresh looks on the concept of Fae and monsters, and a wholly (as far as I can tell) new “other realm” that doesn’t rely on classic tropes nor known mythologies, W. K. Greyling has created a standalone story that both engages and entertains the reader and keeps them coming back for more. The narrative talents of Kat Bohn are exquisite, with differing characters effectively brought to life in a way few single narrators can accomplish, the story is lively, enjoyable, and very quick to listen to. The novel is a new take on a hero’s (heroine’s) journey with trope-smashing characters, settings, and lore that relies on nothing except the characters themselves and the sheer wonder that Greyling weaves throughout the story. The world-building is fantastic, the characters are 3-dimensional and interesting, and the story itself will have you wanting more. I highly recommend this audiobook and look forward to further offerings from this author!

a fantastically wonderful story
This is a brilliant fantasy tale, wonderfully narrated. A true fairytale adventure for grown ups. The narrator's vast repertoire of voices really brings out the characters which the author has created to enchant the reader into wanting to hear more. Brilliant and enjoyable from beginning to end.

Another world
This was the perfect accompaniment to allow the mind to open up into another world whilst painting.
Witterkin is a feast for the imagination, and it astonishes me as to the thought processes the author has to enter into a world beyond our own.
Looking forward to the next audiobook. Thank you

Pretty awful, I’m afraid.
The very first thing that put me off was the narrator. Squeaky, grating voice with characterisations that sounded so false as to be laughable. And I’m afraid the story wasn’t strong enough to redeem it either. It never even became remotely clear what the Witterkin really were.
Really can’t recommend. It was a struggle to get through to the end.
