Summary

Family is not what it seems in this raw, edgy thriller that New York Times bestselling author Lisa Scottoline says “you won’t be able to put down.”

When a mutilated body is found hanging in a seedy motel in Philadelphia, forensics specialist Liam Dwyer assumes the crime scene will be business as usual. Instead, the victim turns out to be a woman he’d had an affair with before breaking it off to save his marriage. But there’s a bigger problem: Liam has no memory of where he was or what he did on the night of the murder.

Panicked, Liam turns to his brother, Sean, a homicide detective. Sean has his back, but incriminating evidence keeps piling up. From fingerprints to DNA, everything points to Liam, who must race against time and his department to uncover the truth - even if that truth is his own guilt. Yet as he digs deeper, dark secrets come to light, and Liam begins to suspect the killer might actually be Sean…

When the smoke clears in this harrowing family drama, who will be left standing?

who did it? <br />

this was a good premise story but I knew who was the perpetrator by chapter4,but it's a page turner which kept me up till 3am to prove myself right. This was full of holes but still enjoyed it.

Great book

I loved this book which was made more enjoyable by the narrator who put feelings into the words.

So boring

I have listened to 100s of hours of audible books, most I have enjoyed. This isn’t one of them. I don’t know if it’s the writing/story itself or the combination of the narrator. Soooo melodramatic. I rolled my eyes so many times during my commute that I almost didn’t have to use my rearview mirror. I have listened to 5 hours and 19 min and still have 3 hours and 40 minutes left. I don’t know if I can power through....
*****Edit*****
I finished the book but instead of listening to my audible I read it on my Kindle. The book was much better not having to listen to the horrible narration.

A Farcical Comedy!

I’m not sure if the author meant for this book to be funny, but a lot of the time the narrator’s style was so funny I could not help but see the story as some kind of delightful farce! In the beginning I found the narrator to be a bit too much, like overkill; however, after a little bit, I began to really appreciate his style as well as his range of talent for the various characters portrayed.

Overall, I thought the story was pretty good although, again, I think that may have been, at least in part, due to the narrator’s captivating interpretation. Towards the end it did become a little convoluted, and in general not too credible. But there were a lot of good parts, and, again, overall a pretty entertaining listen. I think I’ll follow the narrator and check out other books with his voice. Probably follow the author as well...☺️

Slow start but ramps up

For a new writer he has great potential, this book grabs you and pulls you into the story. It was a little slow in the beginning, but once things got warmed up I couldn't stop listening and what an ending. I can't wait for the next book from him

Would make a great movie!

This is a very good debut suspense procedural. Matthew Farrell has written a very twisted story of an extremely dysfunctional mother and what happened to her children.
Two brothers were left alone with their mother after their father's death. Mom only wanted the family together again and decides to drown her children and then commit suicide. Her plans go awry and she is prevented from completing the act. The brothers are raised by their grandparents. Both went into law enforcement. One brother turned out good (mostly), the other turned out to be a serial killer.
Throughout this book you're not quite sure which is which until you're about 3/4 of the way through.
The book begins a little slow but builds steam as you get deeper into the book. The story steers the reader back and forth between the two brothers as culprits of a murder but the end might surprise you.
Chris Andrew Ciulla does an excellent job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Good book

I have to be honest at first I was thinking what is the big deal with this book and why is it a best seller? Once the pace gets going and the story gets set up, there are so many twists and turns! I could not put it down and finished it from 62 percent to 100 percent in one sitting! I highly recommend!

What have you done is an emotional thriller.

This novel weaved a story about brothers and wives and girlfriends and most importantly of a disturbed family. It could be a story of many people but it is fictional and intriguing. Narration was great. The twists in plot kept me listening.

Fun ride

Let me tell you straight up I guessed right away the killers. But it did not matter the story was so good, so well written, and the audio narrator was really good that I couldn't stop reading and listening. The whole story was just a really fun ride. Lots of twists and turns. Highly recommend.

Who The Heck Is The Publisher !

A 14 year old’s Uber contrived plot, wooden characters soapy dialogue made worst by a Michael Jackson lilt.
That fact that I paid to be offended by such staggeringly poor writing is only relieved by knowing it can be returned.
