Summary

Everything started the night after Jo’s mother was buried. When someone tried to kill her and she was pulled into something bigger than the mortal world she’d grown up in.

That was when she met Caius, a powerful and dangerous demon hybrid. She doesn’t know why he helped save her life that night; she only knows what she’s been told: The demonborn are enemies.

But the undercurrents in the immortal world run deep and treacherous and her new home isn’t what she thought it was. When she’s thrust into a dangerous journey with Caius and the truth about her heritage is revealed, she soon realizes the man who is supposed to be her enemy may be the only one who can keep her safe.

Loved it!

Wow this book really caught my attention. I was given a free copy for an honest review and I wasn't sure what to expect, but I am really impressed by both the story and the narration. Narrators often irritate me but this was done really well and I wasn't distracted from the storyline once, plus I enjoyed the fact there was a male narrator for the brief male perspective at the end of each chapter. The story really pulled me in and kept me listening. The MC's discovery of the new world, new role and new self are really well written and the developing relationship throughout the book keeps you on your toes. I was sad it ended!

Unique and imaginative

I received a free audio copy of this book directly from the author for an honest review. This is a really unique and imaginative concept that grabs you straight away. I actually didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did but the more I listened and you hear the sassy strong Jo hearing about just how different life is from what she thought to what is truth you grow to appreciate how much depth this character has. Caius had his single line at the end of each chapter which I thought would drive me bonkers but in the end I sort of craved to hear his thoughts on the current situation even if it was just three words. Again his character is incredible and perfect for this world and plot. I loved the use to reapers in this book as they are very rarely used I feel and it worked so well with this storyline. I definitely look forward to more!

So good

I received this book free for an honest review. Jo didn’t know anything about her father until the day her Mother was buried then someone tried to kill her and Caius a powerful Demon hybrid saved her . She was plunged into a world she never knew existed and told her Father was an angel she was sent to be a reaper but things take another twist when both sides try to kill her. I loved this book and gave bought book 2 which I am listening to now. The narraors are perfect but wish Zachary had voiced more of Caius.

Wow! Angels, Demons, Reapers and more

This audiobook was outstanding. The way AD Trosper was able to pull me in and keep me intrigued the entire journey was amazing. I was exhausted when I came to the end and immediately purchased book 2 Betrayed. I requested this book in exchange for a honest review and I and ecstatic that I did. The heroine Jo/Josephine did not know her full heritage, even though she was told she was a reaper after her mother's death. Chaos/Kais? is the demon borned Hero that was always honest with her, protective of her, and fought with her. They have been sent on a mission to find out why the lost souls were disappearing. This story resonated with me because if these 2 sides could work together, with all of their differences, why can't we ? The story was fast pace, exciting, detailed with the author's creativity with a touch of romance. I can't wait to hear book 2. The narrators Suzanne T Fortin was excellent and she narrated the majority of the book. Zachary Johnson narrated Chaos thoughts with his dark smoky voice and was a fantastic contrast. Loved loved loved

Excellent Narrator. Brilliant story. Loved it

Suzanne T Fortin is a brilliant narrator. Usually it take me a couple of chapters to settle with a narrator I have never listened to before, but not her. I relaxed into the book straight away and she did an excellent job with all the characters. The one bad point is there was nowhere near enough of Zachary Johnson....I could have listened to a lot more of him. I really, really enjoyed the story, it's a great idea and executed beautifully. The world is fabulous and the characters are great. I loved watching how Jo reacted to everything and how she changed throughout the book. And woaaaah Caius, loved him so much. I'm looking forward to the next book....

Decisions, Decisions

This young adult has to grow up fast making some hard decisions. I like the way she did this, no whining just faced them and went on. I so thoroughly enjoyed the narrator, she brought the characters out with maturity, no baby voices. Showing them to be intelligent and capable. This audio was given to me free, and I voluntarily gave this review.

Interesting Reaper Story

I really loved this book, it had all the elements of a fantastic YA fantasy. Jo and Victoria are sisters who couldn’t be more different. When their mother dies, and they are forced to face the truth of their origins, they are brought into a world they never would’ve guessed existed. Within the world, they each have their own roles, one as a Reaper and one as a Guardian. Jo was my favorite character. She was feisty and strong. She did not back down even when other characters did. The thing that bothered me about this book though was the two six month jumps within the story. The first is when Jo is first brought into the Reaper world and the second is just after she begins reaping. I feel as if a lot of the story is lost for these jumps. These time periods would’ve shown some real character development and would’ve helped the reader to divulge into this book’s world more thoroughly. With the time skip, I felt as if there was a bit of an info dump to explain it all, and it’s a shame because the book has so much going for it.

Great listen

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. The author did a great job building the world and characters. I appreciate that even though the heroine is young and has had a lot thrown at her, she remains mature and focused on what needs to be done without a lot of whining and self pity. The narrators were perfect and really brought the characters to life! I received this audiobook for free at my request and left this review voluntarily.

Loved this book

The narration was wonderful and the storyline was super intriguing! I need more! Jo is so strong and trying to stay alive in a world set against her. Caucus is stubborn willed and protective of Jo towards the end and I love it. I wanted more of Caius’ narration. I really want book 2!

Great first book in the series

Loved this unusual story of demons, angels and reapers. When Jo and Victoria’s mother dies of cancer, the girls are trust into a world they didn’t know existed and the truth of their individual heritage is unearthed. As Victoria settles into her new life, Jo’s becomes increasingly complicated. As secrets are revealed, the dangers and problems grow, and when she is assigned a clandestine mission with a Demon-born, Jo’s life is turned upside down once again. This is a fast paced story with surprises at every turn. I loved the author refreshing take on demons and angles and especially how nothing is black and white with them. Jo is a character you easily become attached to, she is strong, snarky and capable, and the slow revealing of who she is and what abilities she has is great. Cauis is a complex hunk of a character that you can not help but fall for, who would have guessed that a demon could be so appealing! The duel narrators did an excellent job of giving the characters individual voices and making you feel all the emotions and tension in the story. I loved the one sentence commentary by Cauis at the end of the chapters and the deep sexy voice Zackary Johnson uses for him makes your toes curl and leaves you wanting more. This is a great story and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Reaper Realm Rollercoaster

All the feels for this one! From the gut-wrenching beginning, I unwittingly related to, through a couple of 6 month jumps that jarred me, I wasn't sure I'd like this, stopped it, and listened to another book. **BUT** I came back to it, re-listened to the beginning with fresh ears, & followed Jo on her journey into a realm of reapers, angels, & demon-born, as she finds her way in the aftermath of losing her mom to cancer. Introverted, with a snarky, filterless mouth, Jo has always been on the sidelines, night to her sister's day. But after discovering she's a reaper with questionable heritage, she starts making friends for the first time in her life. Suddenly they discover souls going missing, the "Lost", and the numbers are growing at an alarming rate. Jo's given a top-secret assignment to find who's behind it, and is paired with an aggravating demon-born, Caius, who makes her insane with his arrogant ways, nevermind how startlingly handsome he is. They slowly bond on their given quest, risking life & limb for something they find may do more harm than good. Once her secret is revealed to all, she has to decide if saving the Lost is worth losing all she's gained. You're left with her mind made up, and a new journey begun... & needing to read the next one, because the excerpt of book two is quite tantalizing!! The narrators did a great job of covering all the emotions, though it's different how Trosper throws in a just a thought from Cauis' at the end of each chapter in a male voice, it kinda makes sense, but I wanted more of his thoughts.

Great story telling

I really enjoyed this story. It was an easy listen. I enjoyed the way it is written with just little one or 2 sentence blurbs written from Cassius’s view point. The story was fun to listen to and I can not wait to listen to what happens next!

captivating from the beginning

This story really had me from the start. Its about a girl and her sister who have an unknown parentage surprise and the main F ends up being more than anyone could have expected. In fact, her existence is illegal and alot of people are out for her because of it. Its enemies to lovers done really well I think. I'd love to see more of Caius' perspective but appreciate the little bits at the end of each chapter as a quick little check in to his thoughts. He's an alpha and enemy who seems super cold but really a good guy...who also has a parent surprise . I really enjoyed the unique world, there are common characters living in this inbetween worlds kind of thing. Theres a prophecy that's not well understood (or really explained at all until next book). Overall I really enjoyed it. I went into book 2 minutes after finishing!
