These two had off the charts chemistry and he is the tortured "antihero" I love! He is dark and broody and also a little on the twisted side and I was all over it! I loved him immediately. Then there is Becca, she tried so hard to resist but his pull was too strong, I sat there saying "Girl, same!" the whole time!! These two in a room together, phew the spiciness was chef's kiss!
I knew there was more to Johnny's story than he was letting on and I can't wait to get all the answers! I know his story is going to be good. I also can't wait to see what happens with Becca and her dad and all the other players in the game. There is so much going on and I can't wait for the ending. Cora has done it again! She's reeled me in and sunk the hook so deep there is no way it won't come out without leaving a permanent mark. I ain't mad at it either!
Kai Kennicott and Alan Carlson blew me away! They were spot on for these characters and really brought them to life!

I absolutely love Cora's books! I was hooked from the very beginning, and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed the relationship between Johnny and Becca. I liked that we got both of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
I can't wait for the next book in the series Tortured Hearts to be released so I can get the rest of their story.
Kai and Alan did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like forbidden romances, enemies-to-lovers romances, mafia romances, or romantic suspense.

Kai Kennicott and Alan Carlson are our storytellers and boy, do they brings this one alive. Kennicott is the strong willed doctor, and as Becca she finds an array of emotions. There is a lot to this woman, and Kai finds every facet with her voice. Carlson is phenomenal as Johnny. His dark rasp gives him that edgy, dangerous sound perfect for his personality. Loved this team and look forward to book 2.

Torched Spades is the first book in the Marchesi Empire and ends in quite the cliffhanger. It was amazing and I'm dying for the next book in this duet. Johnny is on probation and is court-ordered to see a psychiatrist. The problem: He keeps scaring then away and they keep referring him out. Becca is now his assigned psychiatrist since she deals with patients with unique and challenging diagnoses. But it soon becomes clear that not everything is as it seems - with anybody - from Johnny to his PO to Becca, everyone has secrets. I loved trying to figure them out and I was kind of close with Johnny. Secrets are revealed throughout but most lead to more questions. This was such a great book and I binged it in a day.
