The tension between Johnny and Becca is EXPLOSIVE. He's the Devil in a designer suit; she's his anchor. The way they fight their undeniable connection while navigating high-stakes danger is simply addictive.

Tortured Hearts is the perfect title for the second book of the Marchesi Empire! I am so glad to be continuing this audio series, it's the perfect mix of dark characters and soulmates. This is a continuation of Torched Spades, and picks up with Johnny is a fix. Someone is trying to frame him, starting fires with his signature all while in witness protection. When it hits Becca's office and she's inside, he knows he has to face his father. But where does that lead? He has been in witsec for months, but will he cave to his father's will and go back? This story is full of twists and turns. From Becca's confrontation with her police chief father to the crazy, maniacal acts of Johnny's father, the suspense builds and left me not knowing who to trust. And in the end, there are so many unanswered questions and surprises, I cannot wait until Tormented Diamonds comes out! Bring it on, I need to see where it all leads!

Alan Carlson and Kai Kennicott are the story tellers for this and continue the dark and edgy feel of the mafia. Carlson brings Johnny to an all new darkness, plus he comes through with so many secondary characters with evilness and accents! Kennicott is Becca, and I love how she changes through the story. From the compassionate doctor, she lets the darkness start to take her and Kennicott's voice is spot on! Love this combination and their narration.

The suspense is high! Love it!

After Torched Spades ended on that killer cliffhanger, I was thrilled to have book two ready to dive right into! Tortured Hearts picks up immediately where the first left off, and several of the mysteries surrounding who Johnny really is and how he and Becca were connected long before they met finally come to light. I love Becca’s feistiness, and Johnny continues to be one of those wonderfully complex characters Kenborn is known for- a delightful villain with flashes of heroism cracking through his bad-boy exterior. Their chemistry and emotional push-pull are absolutely addictive. As the story unfolds, it looks like wedding bells might be on the horizon as the Mafia Prince steps into his role as Mafia King. The truth behind Becca’s mother’s death is still shrouded in mystery, but it’s clearly setting up to take center stage in the next book. This series just keeps getting better. The moment book three releases, it’ll be an instant buy for me. Fantastic series so far!
