About this listen
In January 2014, Tom Baker celebrated his 80th birthday. In March 2014, Tom sat down with Nicholas Briggs to look back over his 80 amazing years - his youth, his early acting career, his great success with Doctor Who and beyond...and his return to his most famous role with Big Finish.
This candid and intimate interview forms two fascinating hours of engaging entertainment in the unique company of Mr. Baker.
©2014 Big Finish Productions (P)2014 Big Finish ProductionsEncouraged by the interviewer to name-drop liberally, Tom complies with curious detachment which highlights what appears to be lifelong vulnerability and self doubt. The benevolent alien is revealed to be human after all, and more like many of us are without being able to admit to it.
At 80, I suppose there is a sense of invincibility and safety to say anything and get away with it as being the rambling rantings of some old ‘harmless’ geezer, but there is feign innocence which should not fool anybody. More like ‘Me, Who?’ rather than ‘Me Too’.
Though it is irreverent and unrepentantly politically incorrect on the surface, there is an honesty and integrity underpinning the performance which flies in the face of fany virtue signaller who may seek to criticise.
His closing quote from Groucho Marx lets the cat out of the bag — I won’t spoil it by writing it here, you’ll have to buy the book — you do not have to agree in order to enjoy.

Great voice acting by Sir Tom and a story that both brings memories of old Dr Who with tales that could be done today.
Oh and that last piece on Sarah Jane, wonderful...sob.
Loved it!
