About this listen

Two o'clock was missing.

In an alternate Victorian world controlled by clock towers, a damaged clock can fracture time - and a destroyed one can stop it completely.

It's a truth that 17-year-old clock mechanic Danny Hart knows all too well; his father has been trapped in a Stopped town east of London for three years. Though Danny is a prodigy who can repair not only clockwork but the very fabric of time, his fixation with staging a rescue is quickly becoming a concern to his superiors. And so they assign him to Enfield, a town where the tower seems to be forever plagued with problems.

Danny's new apprentice both annoys and intrigues him, and though the boy is eager to work, he maintains a secretive distance. Danny soon discovers why: He is the tower's clock spirit, a mythical being that oversees Enfield's time. Though the boys are drawn together by their loneliness, Danny knows falling in love with a clock spirit is forbidden and means risking everything he's fought to achieve.

But when a series of bombings at nearby towers threaten to Stop more cities, Danny must race to prevent Enfield from becoming the next target, or he'll lose not only his father but the boy he loves - forever.

This is the stunning first novel in a new trilogy by debut author Tara Sim.

The story is sweet, the characters authentic, and the atmosphere sparkling.
A teenage romance with a nice portion of feeling without the excessive 'he is sooooo beautiful there isn't anything else going for him' part. Maybe a wee bit heavy on the lovey-dovey side of romance for those who fancy more explicit content *cough* but this is entirely age-appropriate.
Only downside: the plot diverts a bit towards the climax of the story including some unnecessary elements.

Nice and shiny

It took me a little while to get my head around the presentation of time but that’s part of the charm of this tale.

Great narration, really felt the characters.

Can’t wait to move on to book 2

Beautifully woven tale

This is my first audio book. I wasn't sure if I could really enjoy the pace of listening to a book but the reader did such a good job with it! I've listened to 5 hours of it just today and am going straight into book 2. Excellent writing as well from the author of course, otherwise I certainly wouldn't have been able to finish it.

So good

In a mesmerizing tale set in an alternate Victorian world dominated by clock towers, the absence of two o'clock unveils a riveting narrative of time manipulation and impending danger. In Timekeeper 17 year old clock mechanic Danny Hart, a prodigious talent in repairing the intricate gears of both clockwork and time itself, grapples with a personal quest to rescue his trapped father in a Stopped town.

As Danny navigates the challenges of Enfield, a town plagued by perpetual clock tower issues, the introduction of a mysterious apprentice adds layers of intrigue. The apprentice's enigmatic nature sparks a connection, revealing him as the elusive clock spirit overseeing Enfield's time. Their forbidden bond, born out of shared loneliness, sets the stage for a love story amidst the ticking threats of bombings that could halt entire cities.

Author Tara Sim skillfully weaves a narrative where love defies temporal constraints, and Danny's race against time to save Enfield becomes a gripping odyssey. Timekeeper not only captivates with its imaginative world-building but also explores the complexities of love and sacrifice in the face of temporal turmoil. This enchanting novel is a must-read for those seeking a blend of fantasy, romance, and the relentless ticking of suspense.

A Timeless Tale of Love, Clocks, & Courage

I listened to the first book in this series and thought that it was wonderful. However, it is an absolute tragedy that a narrator who reads a book like a maths problem can utterly destroy a story, and this is the result here! I will be demanding my money back forthwith!

the narrator absolutely destroyed this book for me
