About this listen

Book one in an interconnected series of STANDALONES.

Beyond the realm of gods, two cities stand at the brink of despair, and a dark destiny awaits Death's newest Maiden.

Long ago, Requiem was plagued by war and abandoned by the gods but Death saved the suffering people, giving each soul a hundred years of immortality. With that grace, he also sent two Maidens. One of Life, for healing and comfort, and one of Death, the only person in the world with the ability to kill.

Generations later, the Life Maiden is missing and Princess Deyanira is nothing more than a trained weapon. A hunter. A murderer wrenched into Death's dark court to have the name of her next victim seared onto her palm.

She is the enemy of this land. But, when she's given the chance to bring peace through marriage and finally show her father's kingdom her worth, she is viciously tricked into marrying the wrong man, ruining the future of the damaged realm. Her only hope to give something back to the world is to find the missing Life Maiden.

Now, eternally bound to her enemy and dragged into the dark burlesque show her new husband is bound to, she must fight to keep herself free. And her heart. Especially when she becomes the hunted.

Critic reviews

"A deliciously sinful experience centered around a show of life and death at the hands of the Maiden. Fans of Kerri Maniscalcos Kingdom of the Wicked and Stephanie Garbers Caraval will love this story of the Death Maidens one chance to defy Death himself, combined with a searing romance that adds an irresistible layer of passion." - Jessica, @books_and_crafts

This was a lovely listen.
Jacci Prior and Teddy Hamilton did an excellent job with the narration. This was my first audiobook with Jacci, will definitely look for more of her work. Teddy is one of my favourite narrators, he could read me an instruction manual and I’m sure I’d love it.
The music added a nice ambiance, all around a great experience.
Excited to read more of Miranda Lyn’s work, and looking forward to the next book in this series to come out.

Lovely experience. Great production and story.

✨ Death's Maiden
✨ Arranged marriage
✨ Enemies to lovers
✨ Found family

Spice: 🌶️🌶️

Till Death is a full fantasy novel that sweeps you into a compelling world teetering on the edge of despair, where the legacy of gods and the intervention of Death have shaped a unique destiny for its people. The story centers on Princess Deyanira, a character thrust into the formidable role of the Death Maiden – a position that makes her both powerful and feared. Miranda Lyn crafts a narrative with remarkable depth, so much so that the intricate plot and burgeoning relationships could have comfortably unfolded across a duology or even a trilogy without feeling stretched. Each phase of Deyanira's journey, from her forced introduction to Death's court to her entanglement in a politically disastrous marriage, is meticulously structured and seamlessly integrated with the overarching storyline.

One of the true triumphs of Till Death lies in its portrayal of found family. The bonds that form amidst the darkness and intrigue feel genuine and provide a heartwarming counterpoint to the more perilous aspects of the plot. Similarly, the enemies-to-lovers trope is handled with skill, allowing the relationship between Deyanira and Orin to develop organically, albeit with a minor caveat. While their sharp banter is a definite highlight, the initial spark of chemistry felt a touch subdued, leaving me yearning for a deeper connection earlier in the narrative.

The world-building is rich and evocative, painting a vivid picture of Requiem and its unique societal structure born from Death's grace. Deyanira's internal struggles as she grapples with her new role and the expectations placed upon her are palpable, making her a compelling protagonist to follow. The political machinations and the quest to find the missing Life Maiden add layers of suspense and intrigue, ensuring that the pacing remains engaging throughout.

However, for readers seeking a significant amount of romantic spice, Till Death might leave them wanting. With only a handful of explicitly romantic scenes scattered throughout its considerable length, the book leans more heavily into plot and character development. Personally, I felt that a greater infusion of sensuality could have further heightened the tension and connection between Deyanira and Orin, especially given the palpable undercurrents in their interactions.

Despite this minor reservation, Till Death is an undeniably captivating read. The immersive world, the well-developed characters, and the intricate plot kept me thoroughly engrossed from beginning to end.

The audiobook version deserves particular praise, with narrators who bring the story and its characters to life with nuance and emotion. The haunting cello melody that introduces each chapter and the subtle musical interludes during key scenes, such as the dance between Deyanira and Orin, add a layer of atmosphere that elevates the listening experience beyond a typical audiobook.

Ultimately, Till Death earns a solid four-star rating. While a touch more romantic intensity would have pushed it to perfection for my personal taste, the strength of its plot, the compelling found family dynamic, and the exceptional audiobook production make it a highly recommended read for anyone seeking a richly imagined and engaging fantasy novel. If you appreciate intricate world-building and character-driven narratives with a hint of romance, this book is definitely worth your time.
