Summary

"I've discovered that going for a daily walk has become as essential to me feeling good for the rest of the day as that first cup of tea. But I would argue that all I am doing is responding to a natural need we all have. Humans have always been migrants, the physiological urge to be nomadic is deep-rooted in all of us and perhaps because of that our brains are stimulated by walking. I solve all sorts of problems, formulate ideas, work things out to that gentle rhythm of self-propelled movement." (Kate Humble)

Thinking on My Feet is an inspiring journal of walks divided into seasonal sections. Discover the joys and benefits of walking, encounters with the natural and urban world, with the familiar and strange, with animals, people and events. Kate charts her feelings and impressions throughout, capturing the perspectives that only a journey on foot allows. Find out what makes you curious, what makes something memorable.

Also included are Kate's walks with other people who have discovered the magical, soothing effect of putting one foot infront of the other - the artist who walks to find inspiration for his next painting; the man who takes people battling with addiction to climb mountains; and the woman who walked every footpath in Wales (3,700 miles) when she discovered she had cancer.

This audiobook will inspire you to change your perspective by applying walking to your daily endeavours.

Truly inspirational

A beautiful uplifting book. Kate's descriptions of the countryside and folk she had met along the way made me feel as if I were walking with her and the dog. It has inspired me to get out and about more often.

Fantastic book

I found this to be thought provoking. A very gentle book. it's great as Kate reads it herself and so her true passion shows throughout the book. She makes a lot of very good points. I didn't realise how much she travelled with her job. I want to listen to this at least 3 times as there are some really good points made, and also for me a lot to mull over. I thoroughly enjoyed this book throughout and did not want it to end. I would whole heartedly recommend this book to anyone.

Encouraging and up lifting

I walk a lot because I have a wonderful dog. and I too am looking forward to leaving London for Maldon in Essex and discovering fabulous walks for us both to enjoy. Thank you for writing and narrating your book so well.

News reader intonation for an entire book.

I think this is probably an excellent book. One I’d prefer to read to myself.

Sadly, Kate’s tone is news reader throughout the entire 8 hours; so I found myself switching off.

The simple pleasures of walking...

Evocative account about the simple pleasures of walking and all the mental and physical benefits it brings. Kate Humble's accounts of her wanders, rambles, runs and bipedal challenges have inspired me to put my trainers on and get out there and walk.
