Summary
Swashbuckling classic adventure, with an updated twist placing Milady in the role of narrator.
Young D'Artagnan arrives in Paris to join the King's elite guards but almost immediately finds he is duelling with some of the very men he has come to swear allegiance to - Porthos, Athos and Aramis, inseparable friends: the Three Musketeers.
Soon part of their close band, D'Artagnan's loyalty to his new allies puts him in the deadly path of Cardinal Richlieu's machinations. And when the young hero falls in love with the beautiful but inaccessible Constance, he finds himself in a world of murder, conspiracy and lies, with only the Musketeers to depend on.

Sex, Sex and more Sex.
Every now and again I insist on getting a "classic" story to listen to in the car with my 12 & 14 year old boys, so it's not all teen angst. I vaguely remembered The Three Musketeers being swashbuckling fun with some romance so bought this without really thinking about it. Oh My Word ...
It starts with My Lady D'Winter naked in bed discussing how much she'd like more sex and basically carries on from there. Pretty much every character gets it off at some point, with sound effects. Don't get me wrong, it's very nicely done (kissy noises rather than porn, although there is some moaning) with lots of witty historical banter ("Madame you appear to be naked ...") but they are still DOING IT or talking about DOING IT. This is horribly embarrassing if you are 14, in the car with your mum, on the way to school (argh! noo! not again!!!) but hilarious if you are Mum.
Add to that the scream effects of torture, a naked woman choking to death on a horse and various gurgling deaths of people with swords / daggers through various bits, and I would definitely but this down as a 12 plus rating (possibly a 15 if you are sensitive). The hilarious banter, cracking story line and crystal clear sound effects saved me luckily, and they are keen to find out what happened. I don't think we'll keep it though. More research needed next time!!

Fantastic dramatisation of this classic...
What a superb dramatisation of Alexandre Dumas' classic.
A great story retold beautifully, with some fantastic acting alongside perfectly placed sound effects and music to really do justice to such a wonderful tale.
On this occasion, the story is retold by Milady de Winter, providing a novel twist to the tale.
I've really enjoyed Audible's dramatisations, and The Three Musketeers is truly an exceptional addition to the collection.

Delightfully silly -- just like the original
This dramatization of The Three Musketeers splendidly captures the childish exuberance of the original story -- everything about it is silly, but it's silly in an engaging and clever way. The script and acting do full justice to the pompous, bellicose lack of believability of the original musketeers. All the hammy smuttiness of the book is there, as prominent as a cardinal's staff (oo, err...)
What's missing, perhaps, is the political intensity of the book -- it seems to be have been lost in the general swashbuckling and carousing.
It's great fun, so long as you don't take any part of it seriously in any way. The music and sound effects are well done and appropriate.
I don't know if this is a general change for Audible, but this production seems to be delivered in a higher bitrate than usual, and with some sense of stereo. Let's hope it's the start of a trend -- too many Audible presentations have been spoiled by poor fidelity audio delivery.

Carry on Musketeering
The Muskehounds wouldn't be up to such schneegans!
Not what I expected in places; whilst I haven't read the original I thought I got the general gist from all the adaptations and thought this would be a more straightforward adventure novel with some light humour but was closer to a Carry On caper, was tempted to use 'Confessions of a Musketeer' as the headline but didn't think many folk would get that reference :-p
It is mentioned in other reviews its interesting to tell the story from Milady de Winter point of view but feels shoehorned in as your still mostly hearing the story in a more traditional format from various individuals (mostly D'Artagnan) making the sporadic narration of Milady de Winter a bit misplaced and ultimately wasted/pointless. If it was all from that POV and really leaned into this to paint the Musketeers in a poorer light (even though they don't exactly come across that well anyway) and as the villians then that would be great and unique, watching Cobra Kai shows how well that can work :). Instead this part makes it sound like a cautionary tale of a woman scorned.
As such these 2 parts makes the tone somewhat uneven, as I said it could be the same for the original novel but for me this audible has the slapstick nature alongside some tragic in a way to make it jarring, and comical in an unintended way.
The acting was all fine, always hard listening to action & romance being acted out with the former sounding cheesy and the latter cringe at best.

Fantastic
Exciting, engaging, amazing. What more can you say about this fantastic historical tale. Literally the cowboys of yester yesteryear (that's not a typo 😎).

Way over the top - don’t recommend
I found the voice acting in this to be a bit much, especially the weird sound effects of the actors making out (happens a lot). Not a relaxing listen at all, and butchered a classic story. A final note; would have been nice to have foreign actors have even the slightest of their actual foreign accents (instead of everyone being British) as this novel emphasises the tensions between the french and English.

Such a disappointment!
I have always loved the story of the three musketeers and have enjoyed many of audible dramatised stories from a variety of authors, but not this one. At times the dialogue and acting almost descended to pantomime and made me wince rather than engage with these well known characters. A huge disappointment all round.

Excellent dramatization
I was completely taken aback by the excellent quality of the Audible dramatization of this classic. It's one of the very best I have listened to. The different narrators, the background sounds all combine to provide an amazing listening experience that brings this classic book to life in an amazing way.
Highly recommended.

Radio drama experience
Definitely not a reading of the original book for anyone mistaking it. It is however enjoyable radio drama like reading with good actors, effects and an emphasis on light and humor parts of the well known story.

Not quite like the book
The abbreviated storyline is there but it’s like any book that has been turned into a movie - it’s got added sex and drama to appeal to the masses. There is so much added sex in this dramatization that I was rolling my eyes at how ludicrous it was. The actual book has no blatant sex. You have to read between the lines and look hard to find it. The actors did a great job. I have no complaint on that part. I would suggest listening to the actual book though if you want the actual story.

Porn of a classic
If you like heavy breathing and damsels who apparently will screw everyone in grasps’ reach - you will enjoy- frankly Hustler with pictures could do much better.

Great Dramatization
It doesn’t mirror the original book perfectly but the voice acting was phenomenal and made for an extremely enjoyable listen. Truthfully, Dumas’ stories are full of plot elements that appeal to a variety of genres making them appealing to everyone once you get past the identification of his novels as “Classics”.

Classically entertaining
As I have never read the original novel, I thought when I chose this “book“ that it would be just that – the novel itself by Dumas. Instead, it was very much like a classic 1930s radio show, with very well trained voice actors playing all the characters. Overall, it was very well done, thoroughly entertaining, and held my attention all the while. Sometimes the voices were a bit similar to each other but one could follow the storyline quite well. I would recommend this presentation for anyone who likes entertainment in the noir style.

Excellent
This book is performed like theater. It took a while to get used to the production but after that it was excellent.
I hate it has take me so long to read this classic. A book that is action packed full of action, adventure, bravery, treachery, romance and villains (although at times it is hard to know exactly who the villains really are). The three musketeers are tracking down a nemesis, a strong woman villain who is tracking them as well. I couldn’t put this book down!
