Summary

Bloomsbury presents The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu, read by Daniel York Loh.

Read the award-winning, critically acclaimed, multi-million-copy-selling science-fiction phenomenon – soon to be a Netflix Original Series from the creators of Game of Thrones.

1967: Ye Wenjie witnesses Red Guards beat her father to death during China's Cultural Revolution. This singular event will shape not only the rest of her life but also the future of mankind.

Four decades later, Beijing police ask nanotech engineer Wang Miao to infiltrate a secretive cabal of scientists after a spate of inexplicable suicides. Wang's investigation will lead him to a mysterious online game and immerse him in a virtual world ruled by the intractable and unpredictable interaction of its three suns.

This is the Three-Body Problem and it is the key to everything: the key to the scientists' deaths, the key to a conspiracy that spans light-years and the key to the extinction-level threat humanity now faces.

First of all, I really didn’t enjoy the narration. It was just incredibly slow! found that playing it at 1.4x speed made it sound like normal speech, and then I enjoyed the book much, much more!
As mentioned in the title, this book was pretty hard work, but the last few chapters were extremely exciting, and I’ve heard that the other two books in the trilogy are excellent, so I’m gonna stick with it! The last few chapters were enough to pull me in :)

Quite a slog but worth it for the ending!

An insightful and meaningful story with robust backstory and delicate writing. Very illuminating to a western reader, thought provoking exposure to other cultures and mindsets

Enlightening and entrancing

…the narrator wasn’t so distractingly awful at putting on an American accent - the moment the US characters enter the fray in the second half of the book it became essentially unlistenable for me. A good bedding for watching the tv show now at least.

If only…

you will either love it or hate it. I had a hard time getting a hand of any story in the begining but the more it goes on the more pieces fall into place. Be aware that this book focusses more on events than characters.

The narrator simply did an amazing job and was always nice to listen to. Some conversations were a bit tricky to follow but i would say thats more because of the translation from the original language to English.

If you are into hard sci fi you have to give this series a chanse.

Starts out slow but its all worth it

I loved this story, the mix of history and hard science fiction is just perfect...
