Summary
Why are certain women able to stay thin and never, ever diet? What is different between these naturally thin women and those that can only struggle to thinness through obsessive diet-like behaviors? The book explains the significant body of science which finally reveals the differences between the brains of thin and overweight women. It details the alterations in the brain that occur from years of overeating and dieting - and how to reverse them. In a personal and accessible style, the author guides the listener through an easy to follow step-by-step program based on cognitive behavioral therapy. The book's program does not include any food restrictions, or recipes. It does not prescribe any specific exercise program as its sole objective is to restore the brain to its healthy relationship with food.
You will learn how modern foods and ancient survival mechanisms have interacted to create an obesity epidemic. "Famine" brain, high-stress lifestyles, reduced pleasure from food and other factors are examined. Once you understand how your brain has inadvertently gone awry, you will appreciate this sensible approach to "rewiring" you brain back to its natural state - the thin woman's brain.

The best weight loss book I have ever read
If you could sum up The Thin Woman's Brain in three words, what would they be?
Life Changing, Enlightening and Exciting are the three words I would use to describe this book.
This book is a must read for anyone who has dieted and failed or has been on that diet/regain/diet/regain hamster wheel.
This is truly a discovery of what is at the root of why the dieting approach does not work for many people and how to in effect rewire your brain so it does.
It sounds very "mumbo jumbo" I know, but, it truly is not. Its very scientific and very logical.
Who was your favorite character and why?
the word character doesn't apply to this book so I will state the most interesting points are how different the thin and fat woman's brains react to food, mindfulness and its effects on your eating and your life and CBT and how it can provide solutions
What does Kate Fotopoulos bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Kate is a marvellous narrator, she clearly researched the subject matter and delivers it expertly. She engaged me from the start to the end.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes I did, a profound one. I found the likely cause of why I had been battling with my weight for 35 years and most importantly what I could do to address it
Any additional comments?
I have been following the on-line 21 day program that accompanies this book and I'm about half way through now. I feel entirely in control of what I eat for the first time in my life

Keep gaining weight after loss? This is for you!
In a moment of desparation I ordered this audio book. All my life I have known that to conquer an eating disorder was not just about eating right. "Something has to happen in my brain" I kept saying to dieticians and psychologists.
This book has opened a window in my brain; introduced a fresh breeze of an approach and thereby a tangible hope of conquering a life-long self-harm addiction. The approach may not be "the answer" for everyone, but I dare to think after 4 months of listening to this book and installing and acting on the knowledge held in it, that I have been handed the key that I have searched for since I was a child. I am bent on completely "re-wiring my brain".
The book is simply and clearly read. It holds results of scientific research being done on obesity caused by food/eating related addiction (along with other addictions); it describes cause and effect; moves onto approaches of how to adjust the brain's responses to triggers; what to do about triggers; some tips and tricks and so much more.
For someone who does not want to just control what they eat to lose weight, always with the thought at the back of their head that the weight will be gained again when the control slips. For someone who wants to be free of this repetative cycle of defeat and really have a brain that thinks the way a naturally thin woman's brain does about food and appetite. I would suggest listening to this book now.

Might be the solution I've been looking for!!!
What did you like most about The Thin Woman's Brain?
I have read several book about mindful eating, but by reading this one, I feel that I have finally found something that might actually get me out of the caos that have been controlling my life for years. It is read aloud by a calm, yet fresh voice, and the actualy content is not just borrow information on how to eat mindful as it is spiced with stories.
What did you like best about this story?
That it has given my the feeling that I might actually be able to get my eating habits under control, without livng with chocolate, cake, etc. I has helped me realise that diet are ruining, and I will never, ever go on one again.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
I loved hearing about the author's experience, e.g. her discussions with her naturally thin friend. How naturally thin women don't ban themselves any types of food - they just wait eating it until they are actually hungry. In stead of binging chocolate croissants (example from the book) likes there's no tomorrow.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, and I am actually listening to the second round now.
Any additional comments?
If really wanting to get your eating habits under control, I would recommend also going for the 21-day app that helps you get your food addiction under control.

Very informative but too technical
Very detailed and informative. Brilliantly and soulfully presented by Kate.
At times I was turned off by the degree of detail but it is worth persevering.
Many helpful theories presented some of which will help me frame my future approach.
A refreshing, liberating approach. Thank you Dilia-I would love to see your before and after pictures!

Simple and Powerful
Would you consider the audio edition of The Thin Woman's Brain to be better than the print version?
Haven't read the print version.
What did you like best about this story?
This book is simply amazing. No fluff, no gimmicks and no b.s. If you seriously want to get to your healthy weight, here are the intelligent and compassionate tools you'll need. In short, you'll learn to eat mindfully in order to nourish your body instead of trying to fill your emotional needs with food. If you're tired of diets and all the hype/let downs that goes with them, then you must try this gentle and fun process of change.
What about Kate Fotopoulos’s performance did you like?
Kate Fotopoulos's performance is great. She manages to present hard, factual information in a spellbinding manner.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book opened my eyes and made me realize that being overweight doesn't mean I'm a flawed person! It just means that my brain chemistry isn't working optimally and that I can fix it by making simple, gentle behavior changes. I can't say enough how grateful I am for Dilia's groundbreaking work. I've been set free from the eternal dieting trap forever!

Annoying narrator
The narrator has a horrible habit of adopting a gravelly voice at the end of every sentence. It's slightly less irritating if you listen at 1.25x speed. I couldn't concentrate on contents of book.

Very disappointed
What disappointed you about The Thin Woman's Brain?
It has an irritating tone assuming the reader is white, middle class and straight
Has The Thin Woman's Brain put you off other books in this genre?
No- buy intuitive eating on audible instead. It's amazing and the opposite of this book
Any additional comments?
Could have been a good book but let down by its weird tone, frequent references to charts and photos that aren't easily accessible, a very negative and shaming attitude to body size and a terrible narrator.

Like will-power, only more involved & complex…
with a heavy dose of mindfulness (the latest cure-all snake oil) thrown in. I'm going to ask for a refund.

A very insightful book!
I really enjoyed it. Makes you think and challenges beliefs and views. I bought a hard copy after listening to it as I wanted to go back to jt and think more on some issues raised.
