About this listen

2 bombs. 43 dead. Dozens injured. The trial of the decade has begun…

"A pacy, page-turning legal thriller. . . I’m very much looking forward to meeting Eve again in future cases."—Harriet Tyce, author of Blood Orange

New to the job and with everything to prove, Crown Prosecution Service lawyer Eve Wren is working on the biggest UK trial in decades.

Notorious cult leader Patrick Nye and his followers, known as The Seven, are pleading not guilty to detonating a bomb in a London theatre. Patrick might be charming on the stand, but Eve knows that the evidence never lies.

The trial has already started when Eve discovers a piece of evidence that calls the whole case into question.

With the world watching, every second counts as the clock ticks down on the jury’s verdict. And Eve’s hunt for the truth pulls her into the sinister criminal underbelly and straight into the line of fire…

The first book in the thrilling Eve Wren series, perfect for fans of Steve Cavanagh and Jane Casey.

Critic reviews

“Crown Prosecutor Eve Wren finds herself in the middle of the trial of the decade in this riveting audiobook filled with well-crafted characters and dialogue. Moira Quirk is a superb choice as narrator. She skillfully develops each character, yet with deft use of inflection and vocal modulation the focus remains on Wren.… Quirk captures her trepidation with changes in tempo and tone. She conveys Wren's awareness that a mistake could mean that the seven defendants who murdered 43 people in a heinous crime could go free.”AudioFile Magazine

“I really enjoyed this. It’s a cracking read—a pacy, page-turning legal thriller with a thoroughly engaging main character in Eve Wren and an intriguing central premise with the horrific actions of the Seven at the heart of the plot. I’m very much looking forward to meeting Eve again in future cases.”—Harriet Tyce

I love a cult thriller, which is what attracted me to this book. It is a legal thriller written from the perspective of a CPS solicitor doing a case review, making it slightly different to the usual legal thriller. The story is told on dual timelines - the day of the bombing and the present day, during the trial. The case was interesting and there were several twists along the way. I thought I had it sussed but I was very wrong! I hope that this will become a series.

I enjoyed the narration by Moira Quirk.

Interesting legal thriller

I really really enjoyed this book. I took a risk on it and it delivered. Predominantly a character driven legal procedure book, however the back story to the plot is gripping and with the use of flashbacks the story expands as your read it.
The flashbacks aren’t dominating but are welcome when they happen.
The narrator did very well with a very international cast of characters although a couple of British gentlemen seemed a bit OTT at times but not enough to detract I promise.
The list of characters might seem quite large upon initial reading but actually it’s dealt with very well and focuses on a few main ones which makes it very easy to keep up.

I think this might be a debut book but I’m definitely keeping an eye on the author because this was superb

Wow! What a ride this was.
