Summary

What happens when your family tells you one thing, but a DNA test tells you another?

Georgina Lawton grew up in a loving family but she didn’t look like anyone else. She has dark eyes, curly hair and brown skin. Both her parents were white.

Georgina took a DNA test. The results changed her life forever.

With millions around the world using 'do-it-yourself' DNA testing kits, Georgina follows the stories of those learning to live with the results.

An amazing well read story

I was gripped from start to end. What a brave and brilliant piece of work. Was so honest and heartfelt - I could feel the pain at times. Incredibly descriptive with the right amount of humour injected. Could have listened to more. Lovely soothing voice too.

Captivating and candid!

I loved this audio book as I drove to and from work. I am from a black African background and have a blended family. Our differences only bind us closer.

Enjoyable and bingeable

Finished this in almost one sitting. A good mix of a personal story and the science behind it. At times the discussions were like a chat with mates at others they were tense and raw but I never felt like they were aware of the listener which made it feel very genuine.

Very interesting

I can't say I have thought about this topic before but this makes being honest with your children crystal clear. Very concise and easy to understand. Also being from South London it almost seemed to be told by a friend.

Brilliant!

I was absolutely hooked. It's really hard to embed vulnerability into your life when you know it's going to hurt others but Georgina has shown that pushing through all of that really does pay off, better relationships not only with the people around her but with herself too. Really moving snd informative.

Self Centred Tale

What wonderful parents . What a privileged life they gave Georgina. Honour your father and your mother . Wanted to hug the mum . Cannot believe she took DNA from her dying father could it not have been done from a hair brush without him knowing .

Excellent

I really enjoyed this audiobook, not least because I am in the exact same position of Georgina (albeit with less progress in the past decade!). I loved the way it was presented: the mixture of in situ spontaneous face-to-face conversations, edited parts of online/telephone calls and narration. Look forward to the sequel!
