Story
Many of us ache for relationship with God, yet feel distant and disconnected from him. As if he's more of an idea we believe in our head than a person we relate to. But God has a name: Yahweh. This one simple idea has the potential to radically alter how you relate to God, not as a doctrine, but as a relational being who responds to you in an elastic, back-and-forth way.

We live in a time when our culture is becoming increasingly shallow, coarse, and empty. Radical shifts in the areas of sexuality, ethics, technology, secular ideologies, and religion have caused the once-familiar landscape of a generation ago to be virtually unrecognizable. Yet rather than shine as a beacon of light, the church often is silent or accommodating. This isn’t a new phenomenon. During World War II, pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer was deeply troubled by the compromise in the German church.

What are we supposed to think about the coronavirus crisis? Some people think they know: ‘This is a sign of the End,’ they say. ‘It’s all predicted in the book of Revelation.’ Others disagree but are equally clear: ‘This is a call to repent. God is judging the world and through this disease he’s telling us to change.’ Some join in the chorus of blame and condemnation: ‘It’s the fault of the Chinese, the government, the World Health Organisation...’ Tom Wright examines these reactions to the virus and finds them wanting.

That wondrous early church of acts can be our reality today.

A clear and compelling discussion of how the church can better reach, support and champion black congregation members. From the UK church’s complicity in the transatlantic slave trade to the whitewashing of Christianity throughout history, the church has a lot to answer for when it comes to race relations. Christianity has been dubbed the white man’s religion, yet the Bible speaks of an impartial God and shows us a diverse body of believers. It’s time for the church to start talking about race.

Can't anyone teach me how to pray?"" Millions of people today are asking the same question. There is a sense of the necessity of prayer - we have to pray. But how?' Prayer is central to Christian faith; indeed, as Timothy Keller notes in his introduction, it is the main way we experience deep change. Yet so many people struggle with prayer - a struggle that the author himself has shared. This wise and inspiring book is the fruit of those struggles, offering a real and glorious vision of what it can mean to seek God in prayer.

Masterfully capturing the central insights of Christ's teachings in a fresh way for today's seekers, he helps us to explore a revolutionary way to experience God by knowing him as an essential part of the here and now, rather than only as part of the hereafter.

One of the most important books I've ever read
- By A. F. Galbraith on 18-03-16
Summary
A fresh, challenging and compassionate response to busyness, based on the way of life Jesus offered his disciples.
Who are you becoming? That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. By outward metrics, everything appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren't pretty. So he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: 'Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life.' It wasn't the response he expected, but it continues to be the answer he needs.
Too often we treat the symptoms of toxicity in our modern world instead of trying to pinpoint the cause. A growing number of voices are pointing at hurry, or busyness as a root of much evil. Within this audiobook, you'll find a compelling emotional and spiritual case against hurry and in favour of a slower, simpler way of life.

Enjoyable from start to finish
What I have learnt from reading this book?
Time is valuable so don't waste it but use it wisely.
Feed your soul good things, God things and helpful things.
What goes in come out eventually.
Walking like Jesus means to walk slowly.
If we pray break my heart for what break your, then we need to slow down long enough for God to show us.
Thank you
God Bless

Busyness Finally Sorted!
I came upon this book by chance (or maybe God sent me to it)! Either way, I read it in about 8 hours, literally a book I could not put down! (Although I had to for our evening devotional, then I rapidly went back to it). This is just the 1st pass. It has waaaaaay too much valuable, useful information to just read it through once.
I both read the book and simultaneously listened to the audiobook, which was Very useful, if you can, I recommend that you do this. You get to hear all of the inflections, enthusiasm and emotions running through the book whilst, also highlighting the quotable and memorable portions. An advantage in the book is, getting access to a free workbook (usually you also get this with Audible, but I haven’t checked).
It’s possible to not only Stop the Busyness, but it’s also possible to do it with Jesus. That, is such a relief! God Willing, I shall start the process in the morning. Quiet Time; It’s the Jesus way!
(It’s a new-ish year, I intend to gift this book - in whatever format - to my family, friends and church. Despite living in Lockdown London, we’re still too busy and when our lockdown lifts, it will be the perfect time to start applying these Spiritual Principles).
