Summary

A fresh, challenging and compassionate response to busyness, based on the way of life Jesus offered his disciples.

Who are you becoming? That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. By outward metrics, everything appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren't pretty. So he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: 'Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life.' It wasn't the response he expected, but it continues to be the answer he needs.

Too often we treat the symptoms of toxicity in our modern world instead of trying to pinpoint the cause. A growing number of voices are pointing at hurry, or busyness as a root of much evil. Within this audiobook, you'll find a compelling emotional and spiritual case against hurry and in favour of a slower, simpler way of life.

I loved this book!

So much wisdom and teaching! I also see Jesus as a great teacher and the book shows in a very light way how to apply his teachings to our life, now, with social media and email, and it was so funny and lovely, I felt like having a conversation throughout the book!

Enjoyable from start to finish

What I have learnt from reading this book?

Time is valuable so don't waste it but use it wisely.

Feed your soul good things, God things and helpful things.

What goes in come out eventually.

Walking like Jesus means to walk slowly.

If we pray break my heart for what break your, then we need to slow down long enough for God to show us.

Thank you
God Bless

Ben

Thought provoking invitation

Loved the narration, the honesty of John. Most of all loved the invitation to what could bring our souls back to life.

Busyness Finally Sorted!

I came upon this book by chance (or maybe God sent me to it)! Either way, I read it in about 8 hours, literally a book I could not put down! (Although I had to for our evening devotional, then I rapidly went back to it). This is just the 1st pass. It has waaaaaay too much valuable, useful information to just read it through once.

I both read the book and simultaneously listened to the audiobook, which was Very useful, if you can, I recommend that you do this. You get to hear all of the inflections, enthusiasm and emotions running through the book whilst, also highlighting the quotable and memorable portions. An advantage in the book is, getting access to a free workbook (usually you also get this with Audible, but I haven’t checked).

It’s possible to not only Stop the Busyness, but it’s also possible to do it with Jesus. That, is such a relief! God Willing, I shall start the process in the morning. Quiet Time; It’s the Jesus way!

(It’s a new-ish year, I intend to gift this book - in whatever format - to my family, friends and church. Despite living in Lockdown London, we’re still too busy and when our lockdown lifts, it will be the perfect time to start applying these Spiritual Principles).

Brilliant text, horrible naggy reading,

Such a good book and important theme, but don't listen to this performance. Felt nagged from beginning to end. Get another reader!

Wow!.. life changing

I have always lived my life trying to get more done. I even put off sleeping due to the idea of getting more done during that time.
I am learning to slow down and switch off from technology and spend time with family. It feels amazing being actually present in the moment. My family and friends have noticed a difference since I started reading this book and putting the suggestions into practice. I would 100% recommend this book.

Needed in 2020

This book has been on my ‘to read’ list since November 2019 and only now, September 2020 have I finished. It’s super practical and insightful on how we can look at living a quiet, slower life. With all that has happened in 2020, this has come at a time that makes it easier to implement.
Great audiobook and great book. Totally recommend.

Wonderful.

Wonderful, timely. Thoughtful and conversational yet full of deep wisdom and practical application. JMC overflows with humility and love - and occasional humour. Grateful for his life and the intentional way he carries his role as pastor and leader and apprentice under Jesus. Such a breath of fresh air in this hurried world. So grateful for this book. It has truly changed my life and brought me closer to the unhurried, intentional and patient ever-present Jesus.
