About this listen

A series of gruesome murders on the Lincolnshire fens. An old enemy from the past. A deadly game of cat and mouse.

The peaceful little village of Saltern-le-Fen is buzzing with excitement. A film crew are in town, shooting a new TV police drama, Fen Division Five. But Detective Jackman receives a disturbing tip-off that something is wrong.

Detective Marie Evans meanwhile is looking forward to moving into her dream home. But there’s no time to celebrate. The naked body of a young man is found at the river’s edge. He’s been strangled, his skin massaged in expensive oil.

Two days later, another handsome young man is discovered in a shallow lake. His throat cut. He too is lathered in body oil.

At the same time, an arch enemy from the past emerges. A master manipulator who has his sights on Jackman and Evans. From behind the bars of his high security prison, he’s putting the finishing touches to a devastating revenge plan.

As they hunt a brutal killer, Jackman and Evans are themselves hunted in a deadly game of cat and mouse – and the stakes could not be higher.

This was the best instalment so far in the Jackman and Evans series. Although my one complaint is it robbed me of sleep as I couldn’t stop listening! It was very tense and there are so many good twists and turns!

The best yet!

I have been waiting for this book to drop and it doesn’t disappoint.
I love the development of the more fringe characters and a little less of Gary, I’m sorry I adore Richard’s narration but Gary reminds me of an old woman! I guessed what the ‘other’ business was before it was revealed and I don’t know if that is worrying or not lol but I listened to the book in one sitting and I am going back to book 2 to start all over again because there is nothing I like more as the evenings get colder than to be lulled to sleep by the gorgeous Richard. I can literally picture all the places and characters they have actual faces for me. Even Jackman’s home.

I strongly recommend my only slight niggle is the often fanciful police procedure which only really works in fiction not reality but it’s a minor complaint and doesn’t deter from the enjoyment of the book.

Absolutely BRILLIANT!

I am not sure what was wrong with this book, it just didn’t satisfy properly.
The familiar characters were all there, but it all felt way too contrived. The ending was surprisingly unsatisfying, with new suspects dropping in very late and an utterly disappointing end for one villain.
There were some good twists and the narration is outstanding.
On reflection it felt like two plots not properly integrated or developed.

Not quite there…

Great to have a story with so many facets. Kept you guessing until the end. And the narrator. Wow. That man could read the the rules of cricket and I’d still listen

Wonderful characters

Nothing to report. I enjoyed it all... especially the excellent narration by Richard Armitage. A clever, intricate plot which had me hooked throughout.

Very good.
