Summary

I got in over my head.

I bit off more than I could chew.

And now my fate is sealed to the most ruthless man I know.

Two hundred fifty guests. They think they know what's happening today. But they don't have a clue.

My wedding day. But it's so much more than that.

NOTE: This is a stand-alone contemporary dark romance with NO cliff-hanger!

"A scorcher of a book with delightful surprises and the Kitty Thomas brand of darkness that twists its way to a happy ending." (Charmaine Pauls, USA Today best-selling author)

This is not at all....

This is not at all what I was expecting from the books descriptions and there was no warning about the MM stuff going on. It wouldn't be a big deal if there was some sort of a warning about this being a foursome MM thing. Not to mention the sex scenes are just down right boring. There's no detail to them really. This could have been so much better but it's a bit of a disappointment. The author touches om dom sub stuff but there's no detail to it either. The book missed it's mark big time.

Even the best plan can backfire

A somewhat dark reverse harem with a twist. A trio of affluent fraternity brothers who bonded through the hazing ordeals later in life happen across the heroine. The Heroine, after being dragged along as girlfriend for years only to be dropped for someone else has decided to turn the tables and started a dating rotation of three men. As one messed up or a better option came along, she would rotate the least option out of the pool. This effectively resulted in the cream of the crop for men in her dating pool. One thing about the top of the dating pool is there are fewer to pick from and chances are high they may know one another. Now we have the basis of the story told from various perspectives while jumping along the timeline of events. Surprisingly, this worked for this story. There is some bisexuality within the covers of this book, and some may be surprised by whom, yet it fits with the storyline and only helps to strengthen the harem. With my time constraints audiobooks are my way of maximizing it and this review is about the audiobook version of this book. While I am not sure I would have invested the time in the story had I stopped and read it, I did enjoy it in its audio form.

Excellent story enhanced by talented narrations

This is a love story that has elements of dubious consent and conflicted emotions. Livia is in love with three powerful men, and she’s not able to manage the situation as it spirals beyond her control. The story blooms as the power dynamic shifts, and you’re constantly trying to get a handle of the twists that Kitty Thomas throws in our path.
The narrators really enhance this story, with the two speaking the chapters from the different POVs. Livia’s narrator conveys emotion and puts just the right inflection to let us hear the character’s conflict and uncertainty. The men’s narrator has a power and dominance in his reading that fits the male characters and gives life to the forbidden. Being able to listen to the story allowed me to pick up on details that I overlooked while reading, and this is going is going to be a regular “re-read!”

Never truly loved her

Not a single 1 of them deserved her. All wanted her 🧡, body, mind and soul. Not 1 reciprocated in kind. NOT 1. Sorren deserves to be no more than a eunuch for the rest of his life and the other 2 deserve the misery of each other. U want everything from her but offer only the material. These were NOT MEN - they were spoiled brat BOYS who wanted a permanent toy. All the names and disrespect for the fact that she's a woman,. Not a 4 legged animal. for breeding. A Man is brave enof to give all of himself to the 1 he claims to 💞 These were Pathetic boys with no balls.

Spoiler

I love that Livia is so liberated, but she is a true gold digger. I will add more feedback later.
Update: I am in chapter 19, and I FRIGGIN LOVE IT.

Good but not what I expected!💜

I was expecting more angst but it seemed as though she wasn’t exactly unhappy about her situation. I also didn’t realize this was a reverse haram romance, so I was a little disappointed. I did like that this was a slow burn which is very unusual for this genre. I also enjoyed the sex scenes very much 🔥🔥🔥.
The narration was very good.
This is book 1 with an HEA and can be read as a standalone.

Not Your Average Proposal

I'm a sucker for Kitty's audiobooks lately and this one is in good company. I loved what these two performers did with Kitty's jigsaw puzzle story.

Another exciting story from Kitty Thomas

After I finished listening to The Sacrifice, I decided that I wanted to revisit The Proposal as well. I was reminded how much I love these characters and really wanted to spend time with them again. While this is the first book of the series, it is a stand-alone and can be read without getting The Sacrifice, though if you like this, you'll really enjoy that as well.

The Proposal follows Livia, a thirty-something woman who no longer wants to be strung along by guys. She wants to find someone who wants to settle down and have a family. She decides after her last breakup that she isn't going to get attached to any one man until they offer to marry him. So, she refuses to date exclusively and no sex before the proposal. Guys do this all the time, usually with the sex, so why can't a woman do it?

Well, Livia is really enjoying this dating multiple partners thing. However, now she isn't attached to one man, she's attached to three. She really feels an attraction to all of them. She really doesn't want to lose any of them. Careful what you wish for.

This story is told from multiple POVs and isn't told in chronological order. It sounds like it might get confusing to keep up with what's going on. But, Ms Thomas does a great job telling you the change of POV and timeline every time one or the other changes. I never once felt lost. I think it really helped to tell this story. This is a dark romance with some nefarious plots that happen. Though it does have a happy-ever-after, even if there was some coercion to get there.

If you've ever read Kitty Thomas, you know that she's great at writing these dark romance stories. She practically invented the genre. Kitty Thomas isn't an author that everyone likes, but the people who like her work, love her stories. She writes such emotional characters. I just fall in love with all of them. I always jump on the next book as soon as the arc is ready. I do often get advance copies from the author. I had read this when it first came out. I don't remember why I didn't grab up the audiobook at the same time, I usually do. However, after getting a copy of The Sacrifice on audio from the author, as soon as I finished it, I had to purchase this one (like literally finished the one and started the other on the same day) to revisit Livia's story.

Narration
Sebastian York and Meg Sylvan do a wonderful job with the narration of this series. Even though Mr York reads multiple POVs, each one has its own voice and tone. He is really good at bringing out the characters in just the right way. Ms Sylvan did a great job with Livia's POV. The voice really fit the personality. I would gladly listen to either or both again.
