Summary
I caught the bouquet at my best friend’s wedding. I wasn’t even dating anyone, so I was sure I wouldn’t be next.
Until someone from the past came back. We’d promised if neither of us were married by the time we were 30, we’d marry each other.
But then I’m taken captive by someone else and told I am the sacrifice, that I’m now property. A payment for a debt that has nothing to do with me.
Now I wish I could go back to that boring, safe life. Because this can’t possibly be my fairy tale.
NOTE: This is a dark contemporary standalone that occurs in the same world as The Proposal. This book can be listened to first or completely by itself.
If you like dark alpha male billionaires that kidnap the heroine into a contract marriage of convenience, you'll love The Sacrifice.

Amazing dark romance
My first Kitty Thomas book and it did not disappoint. She did such a good job of balancing dark romance with a heroine who still has her own agency and I loved it. I can’t wait to read more from her.
Narration: Duet narration and Jason Clarke was *chef’s kiss*

Dark & Delicious!
I love new authors and going into a book cold. Both of these are true and it turns out to be not only an attention grabber, but dark and delicious! Meet Macy. A thirty year old virgin, marrying a boy she made a pact with about marriage if both were still single at thirty. Even though Macy is a virgin, she does harbor dark needs and the lack of chemistry with her fiance is worrisome to her. But she continues her planning when she is kidnapped by her best friend's husband, Soren. Using her as a payment for a debt, she has become the sacrifice and will be the slave for Colin Black. He is a powerful man, dangerous and demanding. While scared, she does feel a kinship to him, and knows he is the man to fulfill her needs and dreams. But how does Colin feel? Will he keep her and take her as the sacrifice? I loved this book! It is the second in a duet, but I didn't listen to the first one and don't feel like I am behind at all. Colin is the alpha male, and his dominance is felt immediately. I love how Macy puts him off kilter though, all it takes is a good woman! Macy is a bit frustrating at times. I would have made some different decisions, but it does all play out in the end. I do wish there was more to their story, and hope down the road we get a look at how it develops.
The narration for this book is spot on! Jason Clarke pulls out the dark and decadent as Colin. His alpha male persona is dangerous sounding, but he holds that soft interior just under his skin. Addison Barnes is naive and adventurous as Macy. She pulls off her frustration(loved the cake tasting) and adds her sensuality to her dreams. It's a fantastic pairing for this story!

This Dark Romance left me breathless!
This is my first Kitty Thomas book, but it won’t be the last. The stunning narration of Jason Clark and Addison Barnes is off the charts excellent! I listened to this story in two sittings. It was such a treat to listen to, I didn’t want to stop. (Why do we need things like sleep and work anyway?)
This story is kinky, dark, engrossing, and amazing. What if your darkest fantasies might come true? What if that reality is messy, complicated, exciting, twisted, destructive and freeing, all at the same time? That’s exactly what this book was like.
I loved this book! Five enthusiastic stars across the board. Although this is the second book in the series, it stood well on its own. I am going purchase Book 1 since Book 2 was so amazing.

Excellent Story & Narration🎧Great Twists!
Kitty Thomas pens another dark and twisted story, a story that grabbed my attention from the very first scene and wow, what a scene it is and what a tease. Macy Laine, the sweet Macy Laine has kept her virtue for thirty years, she and William, a friend from college, had a pact that if they were still single at thirty, they would marry each other. She is busy planning her wedding, but she has reservations about it, the biggest being there is no chemistry between them and as sweet as Macy is she has some dark desires. Then her life takes a sudden turn, she is taken by Soren to pay off a debt to Colin who intends to sacrifice and will become a sacrifice to the members of an exclusive club. Colin Black, a dominant alpha master, through and through, he knows what he wants and takes it. Macy is a real gem, nothing like any of the women he had before and he is going to have his way with her and have her asking for more. The plotting in this book is amazing, so are the twists and turns, which are mind-blowing. The story is well written and has the perfect balance of drama, angst, some witty dialogue, heartfelt emotions, an unconventional romance and steamy and well done kink. Kitty Thomas, thank you for the great story and wild ride.
🎧📚🎧 And for the fantastic narration, Jason Clarke and Addison Barnes were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life and did so with a complete understanding of who they were portraying. Barnes’ Macy was fantastic, grasping every side of her personality, her sweet and innocent side to her passionate side. Clarke nailed it as Colin, as the intense, dark and demanding alpha he was. Both were fabulous performing the roles of the secondary characters too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance. These versatile voice artists are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen.

Pathetic excuse for a man
male lead has done nothing to deserve her. claimed to be worried when she ran from him but did nothing more than dial a # to have others get her. Must've not been that worried. Female lead spent most of her time mentally convincing herself she was ok with everything. she also needs to do better at finding friends.
Kitty... sad to say, but I want my $ back on this 1.

Oh my gosh this is pure Kitty Thomas goodness. It was everything I expected and then some. I never leave spoilers in reviews and there is nothing I can say that won't spoil this book. Just one click and enjoy the magic.
Tha narration is fantastic. Colin is absolutely how I imagined him. The deep gruff voice is perfect.

Macy and Her Marshmallow
Colin and Macy were truly brought to life. One thing I really enjoy about audiobooks of KT's work is that I can always feel exactly what the story needs me to feel. I love that for me. I really really enjoyed this.

Colin & Macy
I didn't realize The Sacrifice is actually book 2 in the Dark Wedding series until after I got to the end. While The Sacrifice is a standalone and doesn't require listening to The Proposal first, I was intrigued and wanted to get more of the whole backstory with Soren, Griffin, Dayne and Livia so I listened to that book, too. I'm so glad I did because it actually made me love The Sacrifice even more. Colin and Macy's story was so good with just the right amount of darkness. The story was captivating, original and twisted. I definitely hope there will be more books written in this series. Jason Clarke and Addison Barnes both did an excellent job bringing this story to life.

Dark Fantasy with Great Duet Narration
I think this can be a standalone, so don’t fret if you haven’t gone through another book first. The story starts right away and kept me interested the whole way through.
Having dreams and fantasies are fun, but when they happen in real life it can be confusing. The story of Macy and Collin can leave you with mixed emotions, but it makes for a great story!

Not for me
5 stars for Jason's narration but -1 star for the female narrator. First time listening to her and she's officially on my never again list.
I don't know why this is labeled dark when there is nothing dark about it. I found the story so very slow and so very boring. I finally bailed at chapter 25. Nothing was happening, there had been no penetrative banging, Jason's narration could no longer hold my interest, and I was just bored and wanted this to be over.
This is my 2nd book by this author and I just don't think her stuff is for me. I can't stand slow burns with hardly any banging scenes.

Unexpected plot twists!
Wow what a unique book. I was holding my breath half the time! Macy and Colin are very unexpected heroine/hero. Kitty Thomas has brought forth her best writing skills, her best plot and characters yet in this steamy, emotional yet unpredictable love story. Jason Clarke and Addison Barnes narrations are fantastic. As disturbing as some of the early chapters were, Jason made it impossible not to like our anti-hero and Addison portrays a sweet vulnerable Macy but with a secret spine of steel. Absolutely loved it!

Amazing story
While this is the second book of the Dark Wedding series, it can be a stand-alone, or read out of order. I had already read both books in this series, but it had been a while and I didn't completely remember the stories. When the author offered me a chance to review this audio, I jumped at the chance, even with this being the second story.
So this story takes place not too long after the end of The Proposal (Dark Wedding #1). Macy is the best friend of the bride in The Proposal, who catches the bouquet at the wedding. She's a research librarian for a university. She's an introvert with few friends and not much of a life. She does like to google random facts, which she can't help but share with people when talking about any topic she knows. She also has some really dark fantasies, especially for a 30-year-old virgin.
During school, she and a male friend made a pact, if neither was married by the time they were 30, they would marry each other. Seemed like a good idea at the time. But she starts planning her wedding to a guy she has little interest in. Then her friends' husband has a debt to pay. So he kidnaps Macy and delivers her to be a virgin sacrifice.
If you've ever read Kitty Thomas, you know she writes some dark stories. This one is dark, but it does not mean her darkest ones. While there is kidnapping and coercion, the stories work out in the end for everyone. It is one of those things where I enjoy reading the story, knowing it is fiction. I wouldn't want to see it happen in real-life, even with a happy-ever-after. I really love the characters that Kitty Thomas writes. I always have a good time reading them and love when a stand-alone book becomes a series (just like this one did), so that I get more time with the characters.
Narration
This is my first time listening to Jason Clarke or Addison Barnes. I think they did a good job. Dual narration isn't my favorite narration type. I honestly prefer a great single narrator, but this was done really well. I think they did a great job with all the voices and the inner monologues. I would gladly listen to them again.

Macy and Colin
I've been looking forward to Macy's story ever since she was introduced in The Proposal. Macy is Livia's innocent best friend who finds herself at the mercy of Colin, another character we met in The Proposal. I really loved this story and the way these two seemingly incompatible characters found something in each other that was uniquely suited to them. While this has Kitty's signature brand of darkness, there's a lot of humor that lightened the mood. I enjoyed being privy to Macy's thoughts and ramblings. Colin is a bit more of a dark horse and, at times, I wasn't quite sure of the direction the book was going to take. He is certainly a dark character and not a safe choice, but I couldn't help but root for this couple. Of course, there's kink and heat that you'd expect from a Kitty Thomas book. Overall, I really enjoyed this one and can't wait to see more of these characters!
Jason and Addison did an amazing job bringing these characters to life!
