Summary

India's study into the language of spells is interrupted by the arrest of her teacher for an unpaid debt. Before Matt can repay it for him, the powerful magician escapes from his prison cell. To make matters worse, the moneylender is murdered and the magician is implicated.

Convinced of his innocence, India and Matt must discover who really killed the moneylender before the police find the magician. Their investigation leads them down a path littered with lies, betrayal, scandal, and interference from people they don't trust.

Meanwhile, Matt's relatives accuse Cyclops of ruining their daughter, and plan to marry off their manipulative youngest to someone even more manipulative and far more powerful. Should Matt and India support the union, or try to stop it? And how will they stop Cyclops from being deported back to America?

Amazing

This was such a great book to listen to, Hussey has a great talent with all the voices and those voices helped with how the characters act. My heart panged whenever Matt called India his wife. I'm soo happy they are married now, also what an ending, February can't come any quicker

Good but not the best

I really enjoy this series and this is a fair addition. I did feel that this book was a bit too formulaic. I didn’t think the central mystery was as strong as others in the series so got a bit bored.

Saying that, I still love visiting these characters and want them to all get their happy endings. I’ll definitely be buying number 9.

What a series, so many twists and turns. Can't wait for book 9 to be released.

Good, but not up to normal standard of rest of series

As usual, a great performance. But perhaps this was a less interesting and more formulaic story. Shall read the next book and hope that it improves. Previous books have been excellent.

Another great installment

C J Archer has the perfect series here. The only disappointing thing about it is that I am close to catching up and I'm not ready for it to end. I love all of the twists and turns to keep you guessing. If you love Harry Potter or Gail Carriger's Finishing School series then I am certain that you will enjoy the Glass and Steele series.
