Summary
News flash: Dad is prince of Genovia. (So that's why a limo always meets her at the airport!)
Downer: Dad can't have any more kids. (So no heir to the throne.)
Shock of the century: Like it or not, Mia is prime princess material.
The worst part: Princess lessons from her dreaded grandmere, the dowager princess of Genovia, who thinks Mia has a thing or two to learn before she steps up to the throne.
Well, her father can lecture her until he's royal-blue in the face about her princessly duty, no way is she moving to Genovia and leaving Manhattan behind. But what's a girl to do when her name is PRINCESS AMELIA MIGNONETTE GRIMALDI THERMOPOLIS RENALDO?

Amazing!!!!!
This is an amazing book. Do not be fooled by the movie this is WAY better!!! It may have a sappy tital and a pinkish aperance but it is an amazing book that any non-girly-girl will LOVE!!! As for all the reviews about it is a bad book for young girls, I think its just fine. Im 11 and loved it, but I guess you shouldnt let a 7-year old listen to it. Overall, AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

Does not belong in the 7 and under catagory!
I bought this for my daughters (4 and 6). Luckily they lost interest before the discussion of the conditions that would have to be met before she lost her virginity. The book is more interesting than the movie, but not as inocent.

Anne Hathaway should narrate every book!
A great (and quick!) read. Mia's obliviousness is not over the top and adds amusement to an already fun and entertaining story. After listening- I now believe that Anne Hathaway should narrate every female-lead story from here until audio books end. The best I've heard in a long time!

This book is amazing! Although definitely not very child friendly. Although would not recommend for a younger audience.

excrellent narration
First, get all three books! They tie together seamlessly.
Very funny.
Ann Hathaway's reading is superb. She puts you right into the character and her situations. She is able to change her voice to the point that it seems there are at least 3 different readers..
The only down side to the books is the poor girl's obsessions with her figure (or lack of one), and "French kissing". Despite these negatives, I rate this as excellent family listening. Even our 12 year-old son was hoping there would be more books in this series.
My wife adds that even after having seen the movie first it made the book even more enjoyable because the casting of the movie was not that far off for each of the characters except for Gran mere. We will definitely be listening to this book many more times.

different but still fun
The tone was a little younger than I expected, but I still enjoyed it. I'm such a fan of the movies, I wanted to compare them with the books. Definitely very different, but I liked the differences. I think this book would have been so fun for 14 year old me as it really did put me back into my teen years and how important everything seems to be in the moment. I'm excited to see how the next one will be!

Would Reccomend to Any Teen (Not Just Girls)
I am about halfway through the series, listening on and off. this book is definitely a classic! I used to watch the movies all the time when I was littler and still love them today. Anne Hathaway was perfect for the movie and her narration was great here.
Grandmere is such a character and I think she is so much better in the books. The series is just fun and my advice is to just not take the plot too seriously. Princess diaries isn't great literature but anyone can relate to Princess Mia's insecurities. I am rooting for her! My favorite character is Tina. She is such a loyal friend.
Sometime's I have to take a break from this book because I think it can be a bit repetitive and I'm just looking for something a little bit deeper. I would recommend for any teenager looking for a light read you can relate to.

*Spoilers* Not at all like the movie.
I usually don’t write reviews and I know books and movies are usually not alike but I didn’t know it’d be this vast of a difference. Disney basically took the name and made an entire different movie (i.e. father alive, rude grandmother, “new” characters, no Joe, based in Manhattan, etc ) because this wouldn’t have flown as a movie. I wanted to enjoy it I did because 99% of the time I side with the books, but I was definitely turned off by the use of the “R” word & how we have a 14 liking a senior who (I don’t remember if they said his age) could be considered a legal adult and then *spoiler* them kissing. Also the underage drinking and drunkenness and how the talks of girls bodies & sex & also the teacher moving the grade up just because. Yes I know that’s most schools irl but still, It just all around turned me off even though I really wanted to enjoy it so much bc the movie is one of my all time favorites. And I came in with knowing it’s a book and not the movie. I just was disappointed that i didn’t enjoy it.
