Story
The first audiobook which appeared in Georges Simenon's famous Maigret series, in a gripping new translation by David Bellos.Inevitably Maigret was a hostile presence in the Majestic. He constituted a kind of foreign body that the hotel's atmosphere could not assimilate. Not that he looked like a cartoon policeman. He didn't have a moustache and he didn't wear heavy boots. His clothes were well cut and made of fairly light worsted. He shaved every day and looked after his hands. But his frame was proletarian. He was a big, bony man.

Life - and crime - is not always as it seems for Ulf Varg and the other fearless detectives in Malmo's Department of Sensitive Crimes. There are always surprising new cases to take on, and the latest batch is no exception. And that's not to mention Ulf's struggle to contain his feelings for his colleague Anna Bengsdotter. All in all, things are distinctly difficult in Malmo, and it seems up to Ulf and the Department to set them right.

Sub Continent Police Escapades.
Many moons ago having read all the Agatha Christie titles available I stumbled upon Inspector Ghote. I read all of these that were available at the time. This book is a heady mixture of Indian culture and politics with a gripping murder tale weaving the whole together.
I enjoy this story as much as a Dorothy L Sayers or Agatha Christie and they are much in the same mould. I very much hope that Audible may put a free chapter or a spotlight on H R F Keating so as to publicise the entire series.
Will be buying more in the series as soon as I can.

Ordinary story with little suspense
First thing to say is that this is extremely well performed by Sam Dastor; he avoids comic-strip accents whilst not shying away from getting into the characters.
Overall, there just isn't much of a story. It is pleasant enough to listen to, but the plot is thin and I suppose demonstrates how crime writing has moved on in recent years. It is true, the Indian setting provides some novelty value, but the 'detection' springs from nowhere akin to Agatha Christie. Like Christie, the scenery is nice and the characters fun, but at the end of it, you know that it was much more froth than substance.
