Summary

How do you handle a crisis in your life? Alzheimer's is just one condition that requires loved ones to be caregivers. We become caregivers not by choice, and once we are, we lose our choices. This is a story of a woman who faced those choices and survived.

Narration too fast, content self absorbed

Let’s get the narration out of the way first. Far too fast, like she couldn’t wait to finish. One sentence rolls in to the next in almost one breath despite being irrelevant to each other in some instances. This made listening the first time very hard. So I listened again, to try and absorb more of the content.
It took until chapter 16 for the caring to start being discussed, which did not lend itself to me well as I had bought this book for a broader insight into the care givers life.
The book is a high level story of how one’s life can change in a caregiver role, but there is very little information on the care itself, more the things the author missed by becoming a carer.
There is more biography about the broader family than autobiography about the role as a carer and sadly for me it came across as a very self absorbed piece of writing. This was confirmed by the last couple of chapters where the authors states this book has been her therapy. Each to their own but this book was not for me.
