Summary

With money and hope in short supply, newly minted attorney Brigham Theodore decides it’s time to lower his standards. He joins a seedy fly-by-night firm in Salt Lake City out of desperation. After he loses his first case - a speeding ticket - he’s convinced his career is over. But to his shock, his boss hands him a slightly more complex case: capital murder.

Brigham’s new client is Amanda Pierce, a lost, exhausted woman who gunned down the man who tortured and killed her six-year-old daughter. A jury may prove sympathetic to her unbearable pain, but the law is no fan of vigilante justice - and neither is Vince Dale, the slick and powerful prosecutor who’s never lost a murder case. There’s no question that Amanda pulled the trigger - she did it in front of five witnesses. If she pleads guilty, she will avoid a death sentence, but saving her life this way comes with an admission that what she did was wrong. However, if she refuses the “guilty” label, Brigham will have no choice but to fight for his career - and Amanda’s life.

A Good Story

This is not a storyline if you want light listening. However as a fan of legal dramas it did hold my attention but the ending is some what predictable which is why it only received a 4 star rating.

Light east listen

I really quite enjoyed this legal drama. I took a chance on it in the sale and am jolly glad I did. The outcome, though predictable, was arrived at in a well written a realistic manner. I would be happy to listen to another by this author. Not competition for some of the legal heavy hitters, but still earned its place in my library.

Surprising Story

Only started this book by accident. I do not even know why I downloaded it. But I really enjoyed it. If you like listening to crime give it a go. Actually I like reading crime not listening to it but I found this quite gripping. I wasn’t terribly keen on the narrators characterisation of the women’s voices but it was tolerable. Stylistically I felt that the writing was a little raw in places but I will track down the next book and read it. The characters and scenarios were believable. Good work Victor Methos.

*Brigham Theodore is going to be a Superstar*

From the very first page I was hooked. I read and listened to this book and the narration brought the character to life. Brigham just passed the bar and went door to door of the lowly looking firms and was virtually thrown in his first case. A dui which he lost and was convinced he was going to be fired and was stunned to find he was given a massive murder case. Other lawyers in the firm thought he was too inexperienced it’s a murder case and as he is working for the defence he had was going up against a huge big shot prosecutors. Even though Brigham is out of his depth he decides to go with the case, read it to see how he gets on.

Brilliant Story

I think this author is brilliant and has a different approach each time he writes, be it lawyer or law man, the story isn’t repetitive. They don’t all have a wonderful end but they always have a great end. I’m buying his books rapidly. Patricia Welsh. X

Unusual story.

A brand new lawyer who against all odds gains his acceptance to the Bar.
Obiously this story is in America so it bares no resemblance to the British Courts or of the British Barristers there in.
It seems anyone in America can act as a qualified Barrister without background Knowledge of the Law.

Sweet story but devoid of.any depth.
Good narrator though.

Average and very short

There was a character in the book that we hardly knew anything about. This could have been a full length book if the author had brought him into the story more as Grisham would have done. Presumably the next book will be more about him. Frustrating.
