About this listen

How well do you know your husband?

Since Alice’s fiancé walked out on her, she never thought she’d meet "The One". But all that changes when she meets Dominic. Handsome, charming, and kind, Alice can’t believe her luck when he proposes a few months later and moves into her West London home.

Three years on, Alice’s catering business is thriving and she is married to a man she adores. So when she sees that little blue line, it should be the happiest moment of her life: they’re going to have a baby. But then the police knock on her door and Alice’s whole world is turned upside down...Dominic is dead.

Distraught, Alice goes to identify the body. There’s no doubt that it’s her husband. Yet when his estranged brother comes to view the coffin, he insists the man lying there is not Dominic. Alice refuses to believe it at first, but when confronted with irrefutable proof, she finally has to face the truth:

The man she married is not the person he said he was. And if he lied about that, what else was he hiding from her?

An absolutely gripping psychological thriller that will keep you guessing. If you love Behind Closed Doors, My Lovely Wife, and Friend Request, you’ll be hooked on The Man She Married.

Although the premise of the story is good ... the narration is dreadful and doesn’t really even make a nod towards a phycological thriller atmosphere. The characters are one dimensional and although the plot is interesting enough to keep you listening, there is no real depth which isn’t helped at all by the lighthearted tone.
The ending comes around all of a sudden and doesn’t really explain why Dom did what he did..... overall, worth a listen but easily forgettable.
I wouldn’t listen or read another book by this author.

Slow start, terrible narration

I haven’t listened to a book for a long time, and I am so glad I chose this one! This is the first book I have rated 5 stars, the storyline, the twists, the characters were all fantastic, it kept me gripped the whole way through. The man she married is very well written and thought out, so well done to the author for a great story 👍🏻

One of the best!

The story line was predictable but was gripping. the narrator wasn't the best and would have been better to have more than one.

good read

Good story. Spoils it by being in first person for the narration as story seems slightly disjointed. Like the plot though

Not the best book I've read by Alison James. Towards the end I had to really try and stay focussed because it seemed to be so drawn out. Really disappointed.
