For a long time, I felt that I couldn't write this book. At first, I didn't think I'd lived enough, then life got busy and filled with distractions. In more recent years, there was always a very painful consideration - I knew where it would eventually have to go. I have recently decided that the truth is the only thing that can set me free. The truth has taken a long time to make itself clear to me, but now is the right time to share it, all of it. Television and broadcasting has been a part of my DNA for as long as I can remember.

In his very first book, Alan tells his life story ("oh and what a life") with his unique twist of natural, observational humour: "I'm not saying I'm a fantasist but there have been times when things that I've seen on television when I was younger have tended to seep into my subconscious and blended into my own life. I remember telling my mum about the time I stopped that woman from having a diamond encrusted necklace stolen and she'd say 'No Alan, that was Poirot.'"

As far back as he can remember James Corden has only ever wanted to be in one place: in front of you, doing something to make you laugh, cry, shout, or giggle uncontrollably. At the age of 4, he grandstanded throughout his baby sister’s christening, standing on a chair in front of the whole congregation, pulling faces and cracking everyone up. Despite himself, the vicar was impressed. And from then on he couldn’t get enough of the spotlight, even when it always seemed to avoid him. Throughout his teens, he and his Dad trudged up and down towards London....

Summary
Well hark at you, stumbling upon my autobiography. Bet you wouldn't have put money on that three years ago, eh? Please don't stress yourself out too much, though; it's actually socially acceptable nowadays that you're interested.
Firstly I'd like to emphasise that I have written this audiobook myself, so be assured you're getting the tooth, the whole tooth and nothing but the tooth! (Which was my original choice of title, but babe, we're so over that).
This audiobook documents my story, year by year, from my humble beginnings growing up in the East End of London and becoming one of the nation's most talked-about people overnight to finally moving up the spectrum from guilty pleasure and getting nearer to national treasure. It will make you laugh and cry, and most importantly you'll discover who I really am. If it doesn't do any of those things, you're not legally entitled to a refund - just clearing that up ;-).
I hope you enjoy listening this book as much as I have enjoyed writing it. This book has been like therapy, and Lord was I in need. Enjoy!

Fabulous
I love this book!!!! Some may not think that this is even a credible read but I don't care. It has made me giggle, chuckle, and at times proper laugh out loud!!! There is more than a few swear words but that's just the way Rylan is. I can remember a lot of the things that he has referenced through the book and hasn't had it easy at all. Bearing in mind all the politics and gloom and doom there has been at the moment, I have been genuinely surprised by this young man's honesty and hard work to get to where his is at the moment. If I could enjoy every book as much as this I might read more. The last book that made me laugh this much was Gok Wans ' Through thick and thin' book. Another great read.
I enjoyed this on Audible as it is Rylan actually reading the book so makes it very easy to listen to. Thoroughly recommend this book.

So entertaining!
There's a lot about Rylan's arrival in the public consciousness that I didn't know or had forgotten. I really enjoy his presenting style on his Radio 2 show and find him entertaining and interesting so I thought I'd give this book at listen. It did not disappoint!
The quality of the narration is second to none, I expected him to tell of a drama school background such was the perfection of his performance and delivery. Also the audio levels never seemed to change, it seems like he recorded the whole thing in one session.
I have only one complaint, and it was this that turned a 5 star review into a 4 star one... I did not enjoy the penultimate chapters where he goes into the breakdown of a friendship, the atmosphere turned dark and the book finished so soon after that it left a sour note behind.
Otherwise it was sheer perfection and fabulously entertaining. Rylan deserves his place in the world, I hope he's on our screens and airwaves for a long time to come.

Utterly brilliant
I laughed so much. Thank you Rylan you got me through the coronavirus lockdown. On my daily exercise I would be listening to you telling your story with so much honesty and emotion. I would be laughing so much people would be looking at me and either smiling or moving even further than the two metres away as if I was insane. I highly recommend the book there is a lot of swearing which I thought was hilarious but not for the easily offended. I have always liked Rylan but now I can say I love him.
I’m so glad he has found the love and success he so deserves. The book made me so good was so upset when it ended.
