About this listen

Hydroponics is one of the key advancements that has helped gardening thrive through ancient times and until now. It's easier than you think, and with some dedication your garden can flourish. Whether you want to grow vegetables for you and your family, or if you want to create a beautiful herb garden, hydroponics is a way to expand your gardening techniques and have a hand in creating something new. You can pick and choose from six different systems and setups. What you choose should be based on your preferred type, as well as the one best suited to your ideal growth. The best part about it is that you don't have to be a professional. You can start at the very beginning and gain the knowledge you need to be successful. When you're finished, you will be ready and eager to take the steps to begin your own system. Includes:

  • The History of Hydroponics
  • The Big Six
  • Substrates
  • The Importance of pH and Management
  • Practical Set-Up Guide
  • Benefits of a Hydroponic System

A little book (only 36 minutes) that where the appetite but little more. The chapters are, in my opinion, wronly ordered with the benefits of hydroponics being the final rather that the first. Instead, the reader, after a rather repetitious intro which gives a quick history of it's usage by the Ancient Egyptians and Mexican Aztecs, and the need to determine which of six different systems will be used, logically begins by listing those systems, then the nutrients and substrates most frequently used and then, very briefly, how to set up the systems - including the magic words 'but a kit'.
The narration by CJ McAllister was clear, well modulated and easy to absorb.

As a long time gardener wishing to experiment a bit in the coming year, I felt that I really hadn't gained much, especially since it is mentioned that different systems are more suited to different crops without enlarging on this, so was, instead, rather discouraged until that last chapter on the benefits.
This has renewed my enthusiasm and my intention to find something a little more helpful. Still, as a very basic starter it was all right and it was a download from Audiobooks Unleashed, so my thanks to the rights holder who made this brief book freely available to anyone requesting it
