Summary

Hump triumphed over the challenges of Bledsbury Dungeon, but it wasn’t without a cost...

Imprinted by the soul of the Wolf Dragon, Hump must master this new power or risk being consumed by it. The soul is a fragile thing after all, and he fears what part of himself may have been lost.

But with the threat of the Dragon Keeper Trials looming, he must find a way to get stronger...fast. In need of further training, Hump and his party seek out a wizard acquaintance of his master. What they find is a town beseeched by otherworldly spirits. Locals snatched in the gloom of night, adventurers sent to their aid gone missing, and whispers of a witch luring the creatures to their doorstep.

Hump will need all the newfound strength he can muster if he is to survive and uncover the truth of these spirits.

The price may just be his humanity.

Book two of a Progression Fantasy LitRPG/GameLit Series about a working-class wizard out to forge his own path and prove that one does not have to be Chosen to do great deeds.

A good book

This was a good book not as dark or gore filled as the first one but there was still some of that. My main issue is the magic training it went on and on and it got boring.

I like the world building and the sense of intrigue, the differing views of the gods was interesting. The sense of fun and friendship was lacking from the first book. The funny hedge wizard advice and wit of the fist book was lacking. Opinions of the nobility were entertaining however.

Not knowing who to trust and trying to figure out everyone's motive was fun.

The next book really needs some quests, adventure and some fun before things get too dark or heavy. I would also like the main character to be a bit more consistent when it comes to his abilities he goes from capable to a fool very quickly.

There is no real litrpg vibe to this book but it is an excellent fantastic book.

The narrator did a great job, he deserves thanks.

Adventure

I've been thoroughly enjoying the hedge wizard series, and couldn't in good conscience give this anything less than full stars. When seeing a full 20 hour book for it I was overjoyed. The writing was excellent and weaves together the world and mystery of the story, bringing you in on the adventure. I truly hope for another.

Interesting concept

I’m really enjoying the progression fantasy concept and looking forward to seeing how the characters develop over future stories.

If you like book 1, you'll like this.

This book is ultimately half world building and setup and then half actual questing and if that will bother you, I get the feeling this series won't be for you. But you should have already gotten that vibe from the first book and if the setup didn't bother you there, it shouldn't bother you here.

The LitRPG elements are still barely actually in the story. You will not get pages of stat changes, choosing attribute points or other story stopping moments typically found in LitRPGs but they are a bit more present than the first book.

I liked the new characters added in this book and the villains were interesting. It did feel the quest was really an excuse to shoehorn in a bit more world building at times and some of the story conveniences felt a bit contrived but it's still overall a good story and better than many progression fantasy books on audible so I'd recommend it to any fan of the progression fantasy genre!

Slow Going

Unfortunately I was unable to finish the second book (I made it to Ch.33, but struggled) due to the poor pacing and infrequent action.
Great narration by Tim though, as always.

Filler book

Turns pretty much into a mystery thriller on a topic that barely advances the main plot hinted on book 1. Had to skip most of it to finish. Couldn’t care less about what was to happen to the characters so I quit at about 80%.
