About this listen

Erno the vole is on a mission to beat the Gardener's brilliant series of tomato garden defenses. He may be the greatest vole thief and acrobat in...well...at least the neighborhood - but that doesn't mean he's up for the challenges ahead. He'll need all his wits, wisdom, strength, and stamina if he wants to take a bite out of those luscious pink-orange tomatoes tonight.

Suitable for all ages despite coming from the writer behind Little Women with Big Guns, this short tale of backyard whimsy hearkens to the age of simple fables and plays it straight as a high tension thieving caper involving tiny furry backyard critters gets.

irresistible just like the tomato patch was to Erno. Great story and well narrated. Excellent.

A wonderfully written story detailing a small rodents journey to obtain produce from a farmer's well protected tomato crop. From the perspective of the aforementioned subject we navigate various barriers and traps, dig, chew and climb. A fun short story!

I wasn't sure what to think about listening to an audiobook that featured a spat between a vole and a gardener, but the story is quaint and enjoyable. The text is definitely enhanced by Steve King's playful narration, which is charming and engaging.

Lovely tale, beautifully told

As a keen gardener and vegetable grower I could relate to the efforts made to protect the annual tomato yield from intruders. I’ve even pondered how glorious it would feel for an insect or rodent to break through our obstructions and scoff our bountiful supplies, so enjoyed the story, even though I was backing the gardener.

The best part of course was the narration. Steve King has a lovely soothing tone with exceptional clarity, which I’d love to hear more of, particularly for bedtime stories or wellbeing focused relaxation narration.
