I wonder if this series is now settling into a pattern; one medium action scene setter followed by an absolute fire cracker of a follow-up to deliver on the promises made. This one is most definitely of the fire cracker variety and the action is unrelenting delivering in the Arisen style that we’ve come to love. Hopeless situations rescued either by extreme badassery or incredible adventure – in fact I think it’s worth warning people that this one possibly pushes the envelope even further. Fair enough, if you want just gritty realism zombie books probably aren’t your thing, just be prepared to dial down your logic chips at times in this one.

The narration? It’s the grand master Bray on his home turf and he owns that turf. You know what you’re going to get from him, he delivers every time in this series and this is no exception. The story focuses on the action in the away teams primarily and doesn’t have the rather choppy feel of the previous book which seemed to be pulling a few too many strings together at once.

So, my love affair with rotting corpses and the heroes that are defending the last vestiges of humanity from them continues and I’ll wait impatiently for the next one. You feel the series probably has to end some time but while Fuchs can deliver such compelling action and a little humour here and there including aping Jurrasic Park slightly I have to say I’m in no hurry for it to finish.

A Deluge of Action

It sometimes feels as if there are a few extra paragraphs. Overall great fun looking forward to the next book

I'm liking this series more over the last two books than the first eight, I think because I'm loving the characterisation more, because this is from a military perspective not a civilian one, the more I've got into it the less I've needed to visualise and understand the military descriptive and have been able to concentrate more on the characters. This is my failing not the authors, I've not read books based around the military before. They are all interestingly written, well performed, if that hadn't have been the case I would not have listened to so many.

With everything coming to a head, things are just so tense, all the time. These guys haven't had a decent break, and I'm glad that at least there are somethings that keep on being the usual!

I was literally on the edge of my seat while driving and listening to this. There was such desperation, such heartfelt emotions and inner soul searching from everyone in this book. I don't want it to go wrong, I love these characters, all of them, I've lived with them for the last few weeks, day in day out, 5 hours a day! I really want the next audiobooks, but I know they're not done yet. I will have to wait and I think that will kill me. haha. Best audiobook hangover EVER. Thank you guys.

Fab, just don't want it to end!
