Summary

"You were on your way home when you died.It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. You left behind a wife and two children. It was a painless death. The EMTs tried their best to save you, but to no avail. Your body was so utterly shattered you were better off, trust me.And that’s when you met me."

A short story about the universe.

interesting concept

nicely read. very relaxing voice. and an interesting idea. but, I still feel an 8 minute rendition can't be classed as a book. nor a story. it's barely a page! and I genuinely think this should of been FREE. perhaps as a taster... for the main event? which maybe Andy should write. based on this idea, he could write a super Novel I'm certain. so... come on Andy... let's write something thought provoking, and interesting about this God? who is he? where's he from? and if one soul is EVERYONE in this universe. who is the soul in the next universe? and the next, and the next? there is a higher purpose here... tell us your thought's on it, make it at least a 10 hour book. and maybe, just maybe this idea will be snapped up by Ridley Scott too! but I doubt he can do much with 8 minutes..

An odd but interesting look at life.

I got this after riding the high from the Martian, while it is utterly different I am not disapointed. 8 minutes, what do you have to lose?

Very cool little short story, with a nice premise.

Not at all what I had expected, but left me with a nice feeling, and is worth a listen (though 8 minutes for the money is a rip off...)

Short but sweet

Really enjoyed it the concept thought it was very interesting. A nice teaser and I get that's the point. just wish there was a full length book.

Interesting

An interesting idea which I believe could be expanded upon as the story is over all to soon. A good performance by Mr Bray as always.

Odd!

I really enjoyed the Martian so thought I'd give this a whirl.
Really it was odd - nowt nor sommat, as they say. I wish that I had listened to the sample - as I would have realised that it wasn't for me. The book is actually only 8 mins long - so the sample does give a real indication of whether or not one would enjoy it.

Intriguing

What an intriguing premise. And so well conveyed in such a short story. I enjoyed it so much I listened twice!

An interesting idea, who knows it may even be true, however that would raise some questions that I wouldn't like to answer.

Weir is a master of putting words together.

First let me admit that it is going to be very difficult to write a meaningful review of The Egg. Being 8 minutes long and all. I first saw this story on some unknown website somewhere. I read it, got goosebumps all over my body. Read it over and over and over. Shared it with my friends on all the social sites. Read it out loud, sorry R.C. Bray, to my wife. I was mesmerized.

Not sure if there is some sort of underlying religious stuff hidden within, as I know nothing of religion other than some people hate it and others love it.

Where the magic lays is how every word spoke to my soul, or my spirit, or my subconscious, whatever you want to call it. It made me start asking questions about the meaning of life.

Beautifully written, thought provoking, Weir is a master of putting words together.

Even though it probably took you longer to read this then this story is long, and it definitely took me longer to write it. Do yourself a favor and give this one a listen. There will be the two of us dollars expense on an audio production in awhile.

R.C. Bray delivers every word seamlessly. While managing to differentiate the two characters. I love how you can throw any book at him and he will perform it like there is no other.

Excellent

When I started listening to this short story and I do mean short...8 minutes, I didn't have many expectations. Who can really write anything of substance that lasts 8 minutes? The answer - Andy Weir can. This is a thought-provoking story and just cements the knowledge that Andy Weir is a fantastic writer.
R.C.Bray's performance is brilliant as ever. If anyone can make you believe what you are listening too, especially in 8 minutes, it's Bray. The writing and narration really compliment each other, so much so, I'm going to listen to it again, right now.

best 8min book I've listened to

Purchased the book with part of my $10 listener reward this month. I'm glad I did. It's definitely worth the few dollars and small investment of time. I can't wait for Andy Wier's next full length book.

Amazingly deep for 8 minutes

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I really enjoyed this story. It also made me think deeply about my place in the universe. What might be possible. I liked it.

What about R.C. Bray’s performance did you like?

fantastic

Though Prevoking Short Story

What made the experience of listening to The Egg the most enjoyable?

The story is short, but is so powerful, and really made me question some very beliefs I have. Andy Weir did a great job with this book

Which character – as performed by R.C. Bray – was your favorite?

The "God" character

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Thought provoking story to make you question the meaning of life.

Any additional comments?

If you have not listened to Andy Weirs "The Martian" narrated by R.C. Bray go buy it immediately!!! Also put RC Bray in the search box and see his other titles he has narrated. They are all phenomenal!!!

Laughed for 8 Minutes

Don’t waste a credit but for $2 this is well worth it.
This was a very funny, and very, very short story.
I was literally laughing out loud the whole 8 minutes.
This is not too deep, but really fun.
It reminded me of Mark Twain’s humor.
The writing is great, as is the narration.

Best $1.55 I ever spent

Would you listen to The Egg again? Why?

Absolutely. Well written, concise, and thought provoking.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed Andy Weir's unique take on humanity and its purpose in the universe.

Have you listened to any of R.C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to a few other narrations by R.C. Bray - "The Martian" (also by Andy Weir) and the first two books in the "Fortress Britain" series. R.C. Bray is performs consistently well in all of these books - and "The Egg" is no exception.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The premise was interesting, but it was more of a case that I "could do it" in one sitting since the book is only 8 minutes.

DUMMMMMMBBBBBB

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

It appears that I am a lone voice here. I LOVED The Martian -- it is my all time favorite audio book. However, The Egg was just plain dumb, and I have no idea why so many people loved it. Luckily, it was only 8 minutes of my life down the drain.

Would you ever listen to anything by Andy Weir again?

Yes.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

None

Exceptional

For a very short story, this packs a lot of punch.

The Egg" makes you think.

It's not "The Martian" in any way except it does give Wier an opportunity to put his fine writing skills into a very short story.
I enjoyed it enough to listen 3 times in a row..I kept thinking I missed something someplace..but I didn't.

Will give you something to think about, thats for sure...and if you've somehow missed "The Martian" GO BUY IT....it's #1 on my top books of the year for me. And read the reviews...I just love that so many of us saw the MacGuyver element in "The Martian.

Enjoy!
