Summary

Winter 1865: Five confederate deserters, near starvation and manic with fury over the state of the war, go on a bloody rampage along the Kansas-Missouri Border, taking retribution on a family of abolitionists they find harboring runaway slaves.

Hell bent on revenge, he sets off to find the murderous gang, only to have them slip away. Losing his faith, he sets off on a life of bounty hunting, vowing to never again let justice go astray. "Alive" is no longer an option and in the process, the legend of the Rider is born.

This was a stellar Western!

In 1864 The beaudy and Poe Family set off to move to Kansas. After making camp one night young Ethan Beaudy and Harlan Poe Who are young boys at the time, get up to collect firewood so their families can cook breakfast. After they smell smoke they run back to camp to wake up their pa’s. This would be the first time that Ethan sees in justice and wishes to make it right, but he is just a young boy. So fast forward to Ethan and Harlyn after having four in the Civil War for three years are finally coming home. All Ethan wants to see his young bride Abby again and kiss his mother and hug his daddy. It is only when Ethan goes with Harlan to see his family right up the road that he knows something is wrong and what is wrong is the same runaway confederates That caused the catastrophe he saw as a young boy has now killed and tortured his own family. This is when Ethan balls to get justice and sets off to fine the man who caused his pain. Of course Harlan goes with him and by the time they’re done Ethan doesn’t feel he has accomplished anything Although he does get the worst of them all the others seem to have slipped his grasp. It is this that Wass what pushed him into becoming a bounty Hunter and he vows to Never to let an injustice happen again at least not on his watch. This is what brings us to Kingsville Texas. While looking for a bounty a sadistic Murderous Mexican name Salvador. When he runs across Salvador he is with four other men in Salvador well Ethan is going to back up and get out to rethink his old playing Salvador stabs him. After he is found He meets Dr. Sam and this is when the bulk of the book and the best of the book happens. Although the whole book is great and I highly highly recommend this book the end is so good. Not to mention the narrator J Scott Bennett who I know from historical romance books did such a good job as always with an a ration he even does a British accent. You know the narrator is good when he talks in a different voice and automatically you picture of the character he is portraying that is how it is with Jay Scott Bennett is awesome.
