Summary

Ciaphas Cain returns! As the tyranids ravage the jungle moon on which he is stationed, the Hero of the Imperium must do the unthinkable and ally with the sinister dark eldar.

As the Tyrannic Wars sweep across the face of the Eastern Fringe, Cain and Jurgen find themselves on the jungle moon of a gas giant, fighting off a splinter fleet. The world is uninhabited, but must be protected to prevent the tyranid advance threatening several nearby systems. The situation goes from bad to worse when Cain and the Catachans run into a force of insidious xenos, and the two factions are thrown into a temporary alliance purely to survive.

Can Cain defeat the tyranids and survive the deadly intentions of their dark allies?

Only time can tell!

A Ciaphas Cain audio drama by Sandy Mitchell. Performed by Jonathan Keeble, Harriet Kershaw, Angus King and Toby Longworth. Directed by Christian Dunn. Music composed by Jamie Robertson.

Outstanding

The enhanced storytelling is outstanding. I hope to hear the same in a full novel at some point. More of Sandy Mitchell work too please

Almost did not finished it...

Enjoyed story, but be aware. It is short and not worth whole credit.

Sound effects are poor judgement. It is distracting and I almost did not wanted to finish it.

Cast is different, but that is not an issue. At least not for me.

Lars

The book is fun, however way too short and too simple. I did enjoy it.

A different take on Ciaphas Cain

This version of Cain is read very differently to the main books. Personally I find it a less appealing take, or perhaps more cynically, a miscast. Toby Longworth is a brilliant narrator, but Cain played as an uptight Commissar doesn't appeal when he already exists as a more aloof and sardonic character.

Not what I was expecting

This sounds more like a theater play than an audiobook. The background music was distracting, and the story is not narrated by Stephen Perring. Its also extremely short, and not worth a whole credit. I can see what they were trying to do, but it didn't work.

Such a shame.

Very over-acted for me. I'd gotten used to Perrings' understated roguish very human performance. I had genuinely enjoyed the previous three audio books. This was replaced by the very inhuman performance of Toby Longworths' clipped baritone Space Marine. I also missed the familiar yap of Jurgen which for some reason was replaced by somebody from the east riding of Yorkshire! It was just generally jarring.

It was also monstrously short for the price but I suppose that's just typical GW grabberery... Won't be listening to the others
